Clonmel extended their lead further at the top of Division One of the Munster Junior League as six of the seven games in the top flight result in bonus point wins.
League leaders Clonmel defeated second placed Skibbereen 52-14 in the top game of the day. The leaders had the bonus point wrapped up by half time as they led 31-0 with Luke Hogan scoring two tries and Dylan Cadogan and Greg Carroll one each. Dylan Cass converted all four tries and added a penalty. After the break Clonmel were awarded a penalty try with Hogan and Andrew Daly adding further tries with Cass converting both. Mathew Bushe and Michael Donovan scored tries for Skibbereen and Bushe converted both.
Third placed Richmond defeated bottom side Galbally 14-8 and they were the only side in the top flight not to record a bonus point victory. Jack Donovan opened the scoring with a try for Galbally but a try by Keelan Stephenson converted by Brian Mullins had Richmond 7-5 ahead at the interval. A penalty by John Kearns put Galbally back in front but a try by Jeff McNamara converted by Mullins secured the win for the home side.
Newcastle West kept up their challenge with a convincing 51-6 away win at Clanwilliam. James Kelly (3), Tommy Kelleher (2), Sean Murphy and Sean Ivess were Newcastle’ West’s try scorers. Sean Herlihy kicked five conversions and two penalties. Niall Leahy replied with two penalties for the home side.
Bandon recovered from their defeat last week at Newcastle West with a convincing 53-15 home win over Crosshaven. Kerry Desmond scored two tries, six conversions and two penalties for Bandon with Santiago Gonzalez, Jerry Crowley, Matthew Crowley, Tim Crowley and Mark Bateman getting one each. Paul Burke and Adam Kent scored tries for Crosshaven and Cian McGovern kicked a conversion and a penalty.
Kilfeacle kept their hopes of a top four finish with a 34-19 home win over bottom side St. Mary’s. Shane Luby scored two tries for the Tipperary side and Ciaran Lowry, Cian Ryan and Stephen Quirke got one each. Brodie Flannery kicked three conversions and a penalty. Eoghan O’Byrne, Jamie O’Sullivan and Ger Clancy replied with tries for the Saints and Alan Kiely converted two of the tries.
Abbeyfeale were deserving 36-19 home winners over St. Senan’s. Liam O’Connor. Trent Reti, Michael Enright and Brain Collins scored tries for Abbeyfeale who were also awarded a penalty try. Stephen Daly kicked four conversions and a penalty. Eoghan McCoy, Duane Hoakan and Craig Airey replied with tries for Senan’s with Airy converting two of the tries.
Waterpark eased their relegation worries with a 37-10 home win against Kanturk. Paddy Kiersey scored two tries for the Suirsiders and James Liew, David Fitzgerald and Scott Hornibrook got one each. Alex Molloy kicked three conversions and two penalties. Conor Sullivan and Navarone Papali’i scored tries for Kanturk.
In Division Two Mallow continued their unbeaten run with their sixth bonus point victory defeating Ballincollig 40-21 at Tanner Park. Dave Breen contributed two tries and five conversions to Mallow’s tally. Conor O’Donovan scored two tries and Mike O’Flynn and Mike Lenihan added one each. Vinnie Browne and Tony Keating scored tries for Ballincollig and Charlie Boland kicked three penalties and a conversion.
Clonakilty remain in second place after their narrow 18-13 home win over Fethard. Batt Duggan and Andrew McCarthy scored tries for Clon’ and Eoghan Deasy kicked two penalties and a conversion. Gary Kavanagh replied for Fethard with a try, conversion and two penalties.
Kinsale are now a point behind Clonakilty in third place and nine behind leader’s Mallow after their 33-15 away win in Cobh. Rob Armstrong scored two tries for Kinsale and Steven Breen, and Mark O’Connell got one apiece. Barry McGrory kicked three penalties and two conversions. Cobh replied with a try from Pat Carey and they were also awarded a penalty try. Conor McDowell kicked a penalty.
Fermoy won the north Cork derby with a hard fought victory at home to Charleville 12-8. A try by Eoin Lacey converted by Dylan Lacey to a Damien Leahy try gave Fermoy a 7-5 interval lead. Peter Skuse added a second try for the winners and Altus Meyer kicked a penalty for Charleville.
Youghal moved into the top half of the table with a 14-11 home win over Waterford City. Conor Lane and Alan Frahill scored tries for Youghal and Keith McCarthy converted both.
Castleisland defeated bottom side Thurles 18-11 with tries from Mike O’Sullivan and Pat Fitzgerald. Brian Leonard kicked a conversion, drop goal and a penalty. Barry Sweeney replied with a try for Thurles and Conor O’Hagan kicked two penalties.
The Old Christians v Muskerry game was the only game to be postponed as the Rathcooney ground was declared to be unplayable because of the weather.
Only three games went ahead in Division Three.
Killarney maintained their challenge with a 32-0 home win over Douglas-Carrigaline. Damian O’Carroll scored two tries for the winners and Brian Lynch and Ger Moynihan scored one each. Oisin O’Shea kicked three conversions and two penalties.
Dungarvan defeated Dunmanway 57-10. Alan McMahon scored three tries for the winners, David Hickey two, Martin Houlihan, Shane Norris, Daniel Slevin and Andy Carey one each. Hickey kicked six conversions.
Bantry Bay recorded a 62-20 away win over Chorca Dhuibhne. Dara Twomey, Fergal O’Sullivan and Jason Wycherly each scored two tries with Declan Coppinger, Pronsais Cronin and John Hennessy getting one each. Wycherly kicked seven conversions and a penalty. Eoin Sullivan and Gearoid Breathnach replied with tries for the Kerry Gaeltacht side and Alan Devane converted both and added two penalties.
