Bank of Ireland Junior Rugby Round Up

The Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup continued at the weekend, together with the opening series of games in the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Plate and the semi-finals of the Munster Junior Bowl.
Junior Cup holders Cork Constitution advanced to the next round with a 46-0 away win at Kinsale. It was 22-0 to the visitors at half time with Cathal O’Flaherty, Billy Crowley, Gary Bradley and James Murphy scoring tries and Niall Finn kicking a conversion. Jack McHenry, Murphy, Bradley and Evan Mintern added second half tries and Finn kicked two conversions.
Con’ will now have a home tie against Mallow in the next round after the north Cork side edged out Muskerry 18-13 at Ballyanly. A try by Lewis Grice converted by Jonathan Buckley had Muskerry 7-5 ahead at half time. Sean Glynn scored two tries for Mallow and Conor O’Donovan one. Dave Breen kicked a penalty for the winners and Buckley a penalty and a Ciaran O’Connor drop goal replied for Muskerry.
Kilfeacle defeated Bandon 27-19 in the game of the round. The sides were level 7-7 at half time. Jack McLoughlin scored Kilfeacle’s try and Brodie Flannery converted and Kieran Phelan replied with a try for Bandon which Jerry Crowley converted. Two tries from James Hogan, a penalty try and a Brodie penalty earned Kilfeacle victory. Matthew Crowley and Ben Ridgeway replied with tries for Bandon and Ridgeway converted one.
Clonakilty who led Waterpark 20-0 at half time lost out to a last minute penalty from Glenn Kavanagh 27-26 despite playing against fourteen men in the second half. Rory Hannon, Eoin O’Connor, Alex Molloy and Gary Walsh scored tries for Waterpark and Kavanagh converted two of the tries. Cathal O’Regan, JD O’Hea and Victor Lovell scored tries for Clonakilty and Eoghan Deasy kicked two penalties, a drop goal and a conversion.
It was a miserable day for the west Cork clubs as Skibbereen lost at home to Crosshaven 22-0. Cian McGovern, Shane Bushe, James Burke and Jamie Kind scored tries for Crosshaven and McGovern added a conversion.
Crosshaven will now travel to Young Munster in the next round after “The Cookies” defeated St. Senan’s 31-16. Aidan Quinlivan scored two tries for the winners and Jason Kiely, Mikey Doran and Luke Fitzgerald got one each with Kiely kicking three conversions. Eoghan McCoy replied with a try for Senan’s and Craig Airey converted and added two penalties.
U.C.C. defeated Sunday’s Well 40-17. Louis Kahn (2), Tom Fitzgerald, Aidan Dorgan, Mark Bissessar and Cian Fitzgerald scored tries for College and Dorgan kicked five conversions. Michael O’Sullivan and Andrew Mintern replied with tries for the Well, with O’Sullivan converting both and Rob Egar adding a penalty. The students will now face Waterpark in the 4th round.
Highfield had a facile 55-0 win over Dolphin on the main pitch in Irish Independent Park and must now await the winners of the Old Christians v Shannon tie which was postponed.
Cashel booked their place in the next round after their 12-0 home win over U.L. Bohemian. An Adam O’Connor try gave the Tipperary side a 5-0 half time lead. A second try from John Ed O’Connor converted by Eamonn Connolly earned Cashel an away trip to Richmond after the Limerick side received a walk over from St. Mary’s.
Garryowen defeated Thomond 33-3 at Liam Fitzgerald Park. Brian Fitzgerald, Tommy O’Hora and Aaron Cosgrove were amongst the Garryowen try scorers. Alan Wallace kicked a penalty for Thomond. Garryowen will now entertain Kilfeacle in Round Four.
Clanwilliam who received a walk over from Ballincollig must now await the winners of the Galbally v Clonmel tie and Newcastle West who received a walk over from Kanturk will visit either Castleisland or Abbeyfeale.
Fermoy booked their place in the quarter finals of the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Plate with a 41-13 home win over Killarney. Eoin Lacey got two tries, four conversions and a penalty for Fermoy and Dylan Foley, Tom Murphy, Peter Skuse and Frankie Flynn also scored tries. Killarney replied with a try from Ger Moynihan and Oisin O’Shea converted and added two penalties.
Waterford City defeated Bruff 28-13 to book a semi-final place. Steven Walsh, Alex Fitzmaurice and Simon O’Hara scored tries for the winners. Darren Walsh kicked three penalties and two conversions. Brian Bulfin scored a try for Bruff and John Bulfin converted and added two penalties.
Midleton received a walk over from Fethard and the Tralee v Charleville tie was postponed due to the weather.
Ennis booked their place in the final of the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Bowl after their 23-13 home win over Killorglin. Alan O’Shea and Stephen Dolan scored tries for Ennis and Bryan Murphy kicked converted both and added three penalties. Timmy Lynch replied with a try for Killorglin and Luke O’Shea converted and added two penalties.
Dunmanway will face Ennis in the decider after their 25-24 extra time win against Douglas-Carrigaline. Cormac O’Sullivan scored three tries for Douglas-Carrigaline and Padraig McSweeney kicked three penalties.
