Junior Rugby Round Up

With the Munster Junior Leagues reaching the half way stage Kilfeacle still maintain a four point lead at the top of Division 1A as Old Christians remain unbeaten in Division 2 and have extended their lead to three points.
Crosshaven were the visitors to Kilfeacle on Saturday evening and they got off to a great start with a try from Darren O’Keeffe converted by Cian McGovern to take an early 7-0 lead. Tries by Kevin Kinane and Keith Burke both converted by Willie Staunton gave the home side a 14-7 half time lead. The only score of the second half was a penalty try for Kilfeacle to give them a 21-7 victory.
Newcastle West maintained their challenge with a hard earned 12-10 away win at Richmond. James Kelly and Michael Bourke scored tries for the winners and Sean Herlihy converted. Richmond were awarded a penalty try and Brian Mullins kicked a penalty.
There were also big wins for Mallow and Thomond as these along with the top two look like they will finish in the top four.
Mallow defeated Galbally 35-6. Dan McCarthy, Sean Glynn, Sam Cronin, and Mike Lenihan were Mallow’s try scorers and they were also awarded a penalty try. Jimmy Glynn kicked four conversions. Pat Shanahan and John Kearns each kicked a penalty for Galbally.
Thomond ran in seven tries in their 49-21 home win over bottom side St. Senan’s. The Clare started well and were 9-7 ahead midway through the opening half. Ger Finucane, Jordan O’Donnell and Luke Costelloe each scored two tries and Korey Browne got one. Adam Guerin converted all seven tries. Declan Collins and Aidan Dwyer scored tries for Senan’s and Craig Airey kicked one conversion and three penalties.
Skibbereen lost away to neighbours Clonakilty 50-0. Graham Murray and Olan Deane each scored two tries for Clon’ and Eoghan Deasy, Colin Deane, Shane Madigan and Mike O’Hea got one each. Deasy kicked five conversions.
Bandon got back to winning ways with a 19-12 home win over Abbeyfeale. Tom Ferguson scored Bandon’s try and Ben Ridgeway converted and added four penalties. Derry O’Connor replied with four penalties for the visitors.
Clanwilliam continued their push up the table with a 15-7 home win over Waterpark. Bryan O’Rahilly and Darragh Burke scored tries for Clan’ and Niall Leahy kicked a conversion and a penalty. Alex Molloy replied with a try, conversion and a penalty for Waterpark.
Old Christians proved too strong for Fermoy at the north Cork venue as they maintained their unbeaten run with a 52-15 victory in Division Two. The visitors led 19-3 at half time and had tries from Jimmy Ahern, Eddie Delahunt, Craig O’Connell, Rohan Kiely, Chris O’Donnell, Niall McCarthy, Rob Stapleton and Shane Barry. John Marnell kicked six conversions. Eddie O’Connell and Dan O’Brien replied with tries for Fermoy and O’Connell added a conversion and a penalty.
Old Christians now hold a three point lead from their nearest challengers Dungarvan who just edged out Thurles 8-7. Mike Devine scored a try for Dungarvan and Dave Hickey added a penalty. Conor O’Hagan replied with a try for Thurles which jack Flanagan converted.
Both Kanturk and Kinsale recorded bonus point wins to leap frog over Muskerry whose game with Tralee was postponed.
Kanturk defeated Cobh Pirates 40-14 with tries from Mike Twohig (2), Matt Colee, Tadhg McSweeney, Kieran Sexton and CJ O’Sullivan. Paul O’Keeffe kicked five conversions. Calvin McKeown and Alex Mulligan replied with tries from Cobh and Adam Devine kicked two conversions.
Kinsale defeated bottom side Castleisland 33-0. Jordan O’Regan, Pat O’Regan, Phylip Walters and Mark O’Connell scored tries for Kinsale. They were also awarded a penalty try. Sean Kingston kicked three conversions.
Charleville defeated Fethard 31-0 with tries from Luke Morrissey, Sean O’Connell and Jack Buckley. They were also awarded a penalty try. Jess Smith kicked three conversions and a penalty.
St Mary’s defeated Ballincollig 17-12 at Grove Island. Andy McKenzie scored a try for the saints who were also awarded a penalty try. Jazz Pendejito kicked a conversion and a penalty. Aidan McSweeney and Cathal Owens replied with tries for Ballincollig and Charlie Boland kicked a conversion.
In Division Three both of the top two teams had bonus point wins.
Leaders Killorglin defeated Carrigaline-Douglas 43-27. Darragh O’Shea scored two tries for the Kerry side and Kevin Courtney, Shane O’Neill, Rob Lynch and Fionn O’Shea got a try each. Luke O’Shea kicked five conversions and a penalty. Mark Hanly, Dave McCarthy and Luke Johnson scored tries for Douglas-Carrigaline. Padraig McSweeney kicked three conversions and Eoin Philpott kicked two penalties.
Ennis had a hard earned 25-8 home win over Mitchelstown. Cian Guilfoyle scored two tries for the winners and Dave O’Flynn and David O’Callaghan had a try each. Sean Hayes kicked a conversion and a penalty. Josh Evans was Mitchelstown’s try scorer and Chris Noonan kicked a penalty.
Waterford City maintained their challenge with a 19-3 away win at Dunmanway where Dan McCarthy kicked a penalty for the home side.
Scariff increased their hopes of a play-off spot after their 28-17 away win at Chorca Dhuibhne. Bill murphy scored two tries for the Clare side and Evan McMahon and Cathal Noonan got one each. Jason Monaghan kicked a conversion and two penalties. Adam Daly, Brian Murphy and Kevin Moriarty replied with tries for the west Kerry Gaeltacht side and Alan Devane kicked a conversion.
Killarney defeated Youghal 28-7 with two tries from Shane Courtney and one from Ger Moynihan. They were also awarded a penalty try. Paudie Sheehan converted all three tries. Alan Frahill O’Connor scored Youghal’s try and Alan Daly converted.
