It was a day of shocks as both the top two sides in Division 1 & 2 of the Munster Junior League failed to win and allowed the main challengers close the gap.
The top two sides in Division One clashed at Kilfeacle, where defending champions Clonmel shared the spoils as the sides finished level 22-22 with Clonmel scoring two late tries to snatch the draw.
Kilfeacle led 15-5 at half time and had tries from Gavin Heuston, Darren Lowry and Keith Burke. Jamie Heuston kicked two conversions and two penalties. Stephen Pike replied with two tries for Clonmel and Luke Hogan got one. Dylan Cadogan kicked two penalties and a conversion.
Richmond moved into second place after their 23-19 home win against Waterpark.
Kealon McMahon and Dean O’Halloran were Richmond’s try scorers and Tadgh Bennett converted both and added three conversions. Paddy Kiersey scored two tries for Waterpark and James Kiersey one with Tom Kiersey converting two of the tries.
Bandon are back in the hunt after their 31-13 away win at Kanturk moved them into third place. Gearoid Crowley scored two of their five tries. Olan Crowley, Christian Mulcahy and Santiago Gonzalez were the other try scorers. Rhys Harrold kicked three conversions. Raymond Alesana and David Fitzpatrick replied with tries for Kanturk and Conor Cremin kicked a penalty.
The shock of the day was at Youghal where the home side recorded their first win of the season with a 15-10 win over Clanwilliam. Adam Malone and Alan Frahill O’Connor scored tries for Youghal and Keith McCarthy kicked a penalty and a conversion. Jack O’Dwyer and Kieran O’Donnell replied with tries for Clanwilliam.
Abbeyfeale kept their top four hopes alive with a 23-14 away win at Galbally. John Murphy, Derry O’Connor and Michael Roche scored tries for Abbeyfeale. Steve Daly kicked a conversion and O’Connor added two penalties.
Newcastle West scored eight tries in their 59-3 away win at Cobh Pirates. Brian O’Sullivan scored two tries; Stephen Kelly, Brian O’Doherty, Diarmuid O’Sullivan, James Kelly, Dara O’Shea and Dave Foley were the other try scorers. Sean Herlihy converted all eight tries and added a penalty. Ian Jones replied with a penalty for Cobh.
A last minute try from Rob Phelan converted by Declan Rowe earned St. Senan’s a dramatic 24-22 away win at Skibbereen. Aidan McMahon and Warren Kelly also scored tries for the visitors and Rowe converted both and added a penalty. Greg O’Mahony replied with two tries for Skibb’ and Joe Hickey got one. Denis McCarthy converted two and also kicked a penalty.
Division Two leaders St. Mary’s lost 14-6 away to Castleisland where Kieran Downey scored a try for the Kerry side and Dan O’Shea kicked three penalties. Sean Lyons replied with two penalties for the Saints.
Ballincollig defeated second placed Kinsale 17-12. David Power scored two tries for Ballincollig and John Sheehan converted both and added a penalty.
Crosshaven are the new leaders in this Division after their 47-9 home win over Waterford City.
James Burke, Darren O’Keeffe and Michael Lynch each scored two tries for the winners and Lynch kicked four conversions and three penalties. Michael Hayes replied with three penalties for the Saints.
Thurles defeated Muskerry 35-25 at Ballyanly to move into second place. Aidan Dwyer, John Lillis, Mark Cummins and Conor O’Hagan scored tries for Thurles. Lillis kicked two conversions and two penalties and Dwyer added a conversion and a penalty. Martin Muldoon, Dave Hennessy and Joe Treacy replied with tries for Muskerry and Jonathan Buckley kicked two conversions and two penalties.
Clonakilty are just a point behind the leaders after their 42-10 bonus point home win against Mallow. Gary Purtil, Olan Deane, Gavin Ridgeway, Maurice Shanley, Pieter Cosman and Mark Purcell scored tries for Clonakilty and Purcell kicked three penalties and four conversions. Jimmy Glynn replied with a try, conversion and a penalty for Mallow.
Mitchelstown got their first win with a 17-8 away win at Killarney. Jack Norris, John Herlihy and Pat Magee were Mitchelstown’s try scorers and Magee converted his own try. Mark Griffin was Killarney’s try scorer and Damien Carroll kicked a penalty.
In Division Three Fethard still lead the way as Tralee gave them a walk over.
Second placed Dungarvan lost 12-3 away to Ennis where Bryan Murphy kicked four penalties for the Clare side.
In a thrilling game in West Kerry Killorglin defeated Chorca Dhuibhne 26-23 in a game where the lead changed hands on several occasions. Tom Healy, Tommy Moriarty, Niall O’Shea and John Michael Cronin
O’Neill were Killorglin’s try scorers. Luke O’Shea kicked three conversions. Nathan Flannery, Martín O’Gorman and Gearoid Breathnach replied with tries for the Gaeltacht side and Seamus Moriarty kicked two penalties and a conversion.
Charleville snatched a bonus point win at Moneygourney defeating Douglas-Carrigaline 24-7. Ger Sweeney scored two tries for the winners and Kieran O’Connell and Ivan Linehan got one each. Cathal O’Carroll kicked two conversions. Padraig McSweeney replied with a try and a conversion for Douglas-Carrigaline.
Fermoy defeated Bantry Bay 33-10. Dan O’Brien scored two tries for Fermoy and Michael Sweeney, Tom Murphy and Conor Ahern got one each. Dylan Lacey kicked four conversions. Ian Hurley scored Bantry’s try and Pronsais Cronin converted and added a penalty.
