Clonmel are the new leaders in Division 1 of the Munster Junior League as St. Mary’s replace Kinsale as pace setters in Division 2.
Clonmel continued their great start to the season with their fourth bonus point win out of four winning at home to Kanturk 42-13.
Luke Hogan scored two tries for Clonmel and Luke Noonan, Diarmuid Devaney, Robbie Coates and Greg Carroll got one each. Dylan Cadogan converted all six tries. Conor O’Sullivan replied with a try for Kanturk which Conor Cremin converted and Paul O’Keeffe added two penalties.
The game of the day between third place Richmond and second placed Kilfeacle finished all square 18-18 with Keelan Stephenson getting an injury time try for Richmond to level. Richmond raced into a 13-0 lead after twenty minutes with tries from Corey Wells and James Reeves. Tadgh Bennett kicked a penalty. A Jamie Heuston penalty left it 13-3 at half time. A try by Cormac Ryan and a conversion by Heuston closed the gap to three points. A Shane Luby try put Kilfeacle ahead and Heuston kicked a drop goal only for Richmond to level in the last minute.
Bandon moved into fourth place after their 42-14 home win over Youghal. Tim Crowley scored three tries for the winners, Olan Crowley Conall Bromwich and Christian Mulcahy got one each. Rhys Harrold converted all six tries. Stephen Kelly and Pa O’Shea replied with tries for Youghal and Keith McCarthy converted both.
Clanwilliam maintained their challenge with a 23-5 home win over Galbally. Sean Walsh and Ben Downey scored tries for Clanwilliam. Niall Leahy converted both and added three penalties.
Abbeyfeale ended Skibbereen’s recent good run with an 18-12 home win. Jake Quirke and Philip Collins scored tries for Abbeyfeale and Derry O’Connor added a conversion and two penalties. Denis McCarthy kicked four penalties for Skibbereen.
Waterpark defeated Newcastle West 39-6 at Ballinakill. Tom Kiersey scored two tries, two penalties for Waterpark, Paddy Kiersey got two tries and James Kiersey scored one. Glenn Kavanagh kicked one conversion. Sean O’Herlihy replied with two penalties for Newcastle West.
St. Senan’s picked up their first points of the campaign with a 41-17 home win against Cobh Pirates. Warren Kelly, Emile Moffatt, Fernando Gallant and Aidan Mahon scored tries for Senan’s. Declan Rowe kicked three penalties and two conversions and Mahon added two conversions. Martin Clifford replied with two tries for Cobh and Brendan Mulcahy got one. Ian Jones kicked one conversion.
With Kinsale having a free weekend in Division Two, St. Mary’s took full advantage to go top with and 18-12 home win against Crosshaven. Mary’s raced into an early 15-0 lead with tries from Niall Counihan and Paul O’Loughlin with O’Loughlin adding a conversion and a penalty. Tries from James Burke and Darren O’Keeffe and a conversion from Michael Lynch earned the visitors a losing bonus point. O’Loughlin added a second penalty for the Saints.
Muskerry are still searching for their first win but have picked up a losing bonus point in all their four games. Their recent defeat was at home to Old Christians who have moved into third place where a last minute try by man of the match Ryan O’Connell converted by Sean Meaney earned the Rathcooney side a 32-31 victory.
Jonathan Buckley scored three tries, four conversions and a penalty for Muskerry and Aidan Kelleher also scored a try for the mid Cork side. Sean Meaney contributed a try, two conversions and six penalties of Old Christians tally.
Thurles kept their promotion hopes alive with a hard earned 14-8 home win over Castleisland. Ciaran Ryan and Shane Moloney scored tries for Thurles and John Lillis converted both.
Waterford City gained revenge for their Cup defeat last weekend at Killarney when they defeated the same opposition 23-5 at home. Andrew Condon scored two tries for Waterford and Aidan Power got one. Aaron Foskin kicked two penalties and a conversion.
The Mallow v Ballincollig and Mitchelstown v Clonakilty games were both postponed due to the bad weather.
Fethard continued their good start to the season in Division Three with a 24-13 away win at Charleville. Kieran Power, Joe Morgan, Ashley Weston and PJ Morrissey scored tries for Fethard and Gary Kavanagh kicked two conversions.
Fermoy got their first win of the season with a 22-6 away win against an unbeaten Killorglin side. Two penalties from Luke O’Shea to one by Dylan Lacey gave Killorglin a 6-3 half time lead. Fermoy rallied after the break with tries from Anthony Coady, John McCarthy and Lacey with Lacey converting two of the tries.
Bantry Bay picked up their first points with a 10-3 home win against Douglas-Carrigaline. Ian Hurley scored a try for Bantry and Andre Polivka kicked a conversion and a penalty.
A last minute converted try gave Ennis a 32-27 away win at Tralee. The Kerry side led 17-13 at half time with tries from Kevin O’Shea and Jack O’Sullivan and Jack Quilter converted both and added a penalty. Ennis replied with a try, conversion and two penalties by Bryan Murphy.
Quilter added a try, conversion and a penalty for Tralee, while Ennis responded with two tries from Stephen Ryan and one by R O’Halloran. Murphy converted two of the tries.
