Juniors Get Interpros Back On Track
8th May 2017 By Olan Allen
The Munster Juniors turned in an excellent performance to keep alive their hopes of winning the Junior Interprovincial championship with a deserving 30-15 victory over Leinster at Newcastle West RFC.
The introduction of the Kilfeacle pair Kevin Kinnane and Brian McLoughlin paid dividends as they were Munster’s try scorers.
Munster led 17-0 at half time with two tries from Kinnane and John Lillis converted both and also added a penalty.
Lillis extended Munster’s lead with his second penalty but Leinster hit back with tries from Liam Caddy and Mark Whelan and Gavin Kennedy converted one and added a penalty to leave the scoreline 20-15.
The introduction of Newcastle West’s Sean Herlihy paid dividends as he settled Munster’s nerves with a penalty with eight minutes remaining.
In the final play of the game a great fifty meter run by Brian McLoughlin saw him touchdown in the corner and Herlihy expertly converted.
Munster now travel to Dunmore next Saturday to face Connacht for their final encounter and depending on results else where they could still retain their title.
