Kanturk Retain Cork County Cup

Both Kanturk and Clonakilty served up an excellent game of rugby at Musgrave Park when in ideal conditions ten tries were scored as Kanturk finished their last game as a Junior side by retaining the Cork County Cup.
Kanturk 50, Clonakilty 15.
Kanturk were only short two of the side that started against Instonians eleven days ago when they qualified for the All Ireland League for next season.
Clonakilty with an eye on next Sundays Munster Junior Cup semi final tie away to Clanwilliam used this game to give their extended panel an outing.
Both sides played an expansive game and it was Kanturk’s experience that told as they pounced on crucial errors to score.
Two intercept tries in the opening twenty minutes saw the Junior League Champions race into a 12-0 lead.
Sean Cremin picked up a loose Clonakilty pass on his own Twenty Two and raced the length of the pitch to score in the corner.
The second came when second row Barro Buckley intercepted inside his own Twenty Two and raced to the half way line where he off loaded to out half Mark Healy who carried on the move before sending scrum half Michael Twohig in for a try under the posts and Healy converted.
Healy added a penalty shortly after and two minutes before the interval the out half found a gap to score and he added the extras for a 22-0 half time lead.
Kanturk extended their lead with a try from John Duggan inside the opening minute of the second half and Healy again converted.
When Clonakilty prop Aidan Foley was yellow carded on fifty minutes, Kanturk used the extra man advantage to score two more tries from Denis O’Donoghue and Sean Cremin. Healy and Stephen McAulliffe each kicked a conversion.
O’Donoghue scored Kanturk’s seventh try on sixty four minutes following a great break by Keelan Buckley which McAuliffe converted for a 50-0 lead.
Clonakilty kept plugging away and they were rewarded with a try from center Ethan Jennings twelve minutes from time.
Full Back Peter Shallow showed his skills as he picked up a ball on the half way line and jinked through the Kanturk defence to score.
David O’Mahony scored a third try for the West Cork side two minutes from time to complete the scoring.
