Keep Active With #MoveWithMunster

Munster Rugby’s #MoveWithMunster campaign concluded last week after a seven-week run that included activities for children of all ages.

The campaign provided live fitness workouts and fundamental movement challenges in order to promote a healthy level of activity which would also benefit overall well-being as we entered the Spring months.

Although the campaign has come to an end, all of the content produced over the last few weeks is available below so that all our supporters have the resources at hand so that they can continue to remain active.

In total, Munster Rugby Club Community Rugby Officer Dan O’Sullivan hosted five separate live fitness workouts via the MRSC Facebook page. These workouts proved hugely popular as clubs and schools across the province actively engaged with each workout and they proved a useful tool for those looking to include some activity in their day.

In addition to this, our men’s and women’s senior players demonstrated various Animal Movements as part of our Fundamental Movement Challenges series. These movements provided a useful resource to parents and teachers so that Primary School children and Minis could carry them out at home during this lockdown, at the weekends, or when they returned to school.

Rugby Development Officer, Euan Gee commented:

“Due to the onset of the Covid 19 pandemic and during the current lockdown, we have been unable to support our clubs and schools with face-to-face interactions. This gave us an opportunity to refresh some of our programs and from this, the #MoveWithMunster campaign emerged.

“We always try to promote a positive fundamental movement culture with all our rugby deliveries and this program is a succinct summary of some ready to go movements and games which can be applied by teachers and coaches on their return to coaching and teaching physical activities.”

Club Community Rugby Officer Rebecca O’Reilly, who demonstrated challenges for each of the Fundamental Movements, said:

“We are delighted to promote these Fundamental Movements and were really excited that the Munster Senior men and women’s players came on board to promote this campaign. Recent studies have again signalled concern with children’s activity levels and within this programme, we tried to capture some really useful tips for coaches and teachers to get children moving.

“The focus on Fundamental Movements is a key component of this and supporting the child’s competencies in movement will hopefully help them to enjoy sport and physical activity.”
