Kilfeacle & Shannon Compete For Webb Cup
20th April 2016 By Munster Rugby
The staging of the Webb Cup Final between Shannon and Kilfeacle will take place on Saturday, 23rd April at Thomond Park Stadium, ko 2.30pm.
The semi finals saw Shannon overcome UL Bohemian while Kilfeacle & District defeated Garryowen to book their place in the final, in what is one of the most hotly contested and sought after trophies in the North Munster calendar.
The Webb Family donated the trophy, which was first contested in 1972, in memory of Sean Webb who died at a tragically young age in 1966. It is now 50 years since Sean’s passing and the family have come together to produce a commemorative match programme to mark the occasion. The Webb family have been a prominent and highly respected family in sport and business throughout the city for many years. Sean was a well known victualler in the city where he traded successfully in Hartstonge Street for many years.
Fittingly the first winners of the trophy were UL Bohemians in 1972 and ever since the competition has gone from strength to strength. Sean was a hugely popular member of Bohs and several members of the family played for the club over the years, including his son John.
