Kilfeacle Win Tipperary Derby

One of the largest crowds to witness a Munster Junior League tie turned up at Kilfeacle as the home side defeated near neighbours Clanwilliam to move to within a point of leaders Richmond who were not in action this weekend.

This was a typical game between these two great rivals and every ball was fiercely contested but the game was played in a great spirit and only two yellow cards were shown and these were for technical offences.
All the scoring came in the opening half with Bernard O’Callaghan and James Ryan scoring tries for Kilfeacle and Richard Childs replied with two penalties for Clanwilliam to leave the score 10-6 at the break.

Tralee ended Newcastle West’s recent good run and have moved into third place with an 18-10 home win. A penalty by Dan Clark was cancelled out by an Alan Roche penalty to leave the sides 3-3 at half time. Tries by Dan O’Connor and Jamie Byrne and a Clark conversion put the home side 15-3 ahead but the visitors hit back with a try by Sean Leahy and Tommy Kelleher converted. A last minute penalty by Clark denied Newcastle West a losing bonus point.

Skibbereen kept up their challenge with a 13-5 away win over Clonmel. All the scores came in the second half. David Shannon opened the scoring with a penalty for the visitors after a minute, but Clonmel hit back immediately with a try from Dave Lonergan. Donal Mehigan put Skibb’ back in front with a try and Shannon converted and also added a second penalty.

Cobh Pirates got back to winning ways with an 18-11 home win over Waterpark. A try and a penalty by Eoin Geary to two Tom Kiersey penalties had the Pirates 8-6 ahead at half time. Kevin Allen added a second try for Cobh and Geary kicked the conversion and a penalty. Alistair McCormack earned Waterpark a losing bonus point with a try.

Old Christians eased their relegation worries with a 21-10 home win over St. Mary’s. Tom Maher and Conor Mangan scored tries for the Rathcooney side and Max Castell kicked a conversion and three penalties. Darragh Fitzgerald replied with a try for Mary’s and Ben Sargent kicked a conversion and a penalty.

St. Senan’s won their bottom of the table clash with Crosshaven 29-6. A try by Ger McNamara and a conversion and penalty by Philip Noone had the Clare side 10-6 ahead at the break with Ian Smith replying with two penalties for the visitors. Stephen Ryan, Aaron Skerritt and Declan Collins added further tries and Noone converted two.

There was an exciting finish to the top of the table clash in Division Two with Muskerry and Mallow playing out a 3-3 draw, Andy Cashman put Mallow ahead with a penalty ten minutes from time. In injury time Muskerry were awarded a penalty close to the Mallow line and took a quick tap but Mallow were penalised again and this time with the final kick of the game Jonathan Buckley levelled to preserve Muskerry’s unbeaten record.

Castleisland now share top spot after their 42-10 home win over Carrick-on-Suir, Connie Reynolds scored two tries and four conversions for the winners. Gary Downey also scored two tries for the winners and Kieran Downey, Mike O’Sullivan and Matthew Ahern got one each. Ross Clery replied with a try for the visitors and Charlie Boland converted and also added a penalty.

Killarney kept up their challenge with a 17-9 home win over Bandon. Damien Carroll and Paudie Sheahan scored tries for the Kerry side and Sheahan converted both and also added a penalty. Cathal Crowley replied with three penalties for Bandon.

Tries by Brian Lyons and Phil Kelly and a conversion by Eoghan O’Dwyer helped Thurles to a 12-11 home win over Youghal. Stephen Twohig replied with a try for Youghal and Keith McCarthy kicked two penalties.

Ballincollig caused the shock of the day with a 24-12 away win over unbeaten Abbeyfeale in Division Three. Padraig Flynn, Paul Daly, Damian Attridge and Robert Foulkes scored tries for the winners and Denis Galvin and Kevin Ryan each kicked a conversion. David Collins and Michael Roche replied with tries for Abbeyfeale and Tommy Enright kicked a conversion.

Fermoy are the new leaders in Division Three after their 36-3 home win over Dunmanway-Bantry Bay. Dan McSweeney opened the scoring with a penalty for the visitors but Fermoy hit back with tries from Jeff Daly, Eddie O’Connell, Courtney Canning, Peter Stapleton, Stephen Dunne and John Roche. Joe Lee kicked three conversions.

Kilrush and Scariff played out a 6-6 draw in the meeting of the two Clare sides. Conor McNamara put Scariff ahead twice with penalties but Ben Coady levelled on both occasions.

Douglas picked up their third win of the campaign with a 43-5 away win over Corca Dhuibhne. Eoin Philpott was their top scorer with a try and four conversions. Stuart McLoughlin got two tries and Dave McCarthy, Mark Harman and Dave Murphy one apiece. They were also awarded a penalty try.
Eoin Firtear replied with a try for the Kerry Gaeltacht side.

Mitchelstown continued their recent good run in the Junior Two League South with a 27-3 win over Cobh Pirates. Owen Burke, Patrick Molloy, Shane Moylan and Mark Kavanagh scored tries for the winners and Pa Magee kicked a penalty and two conversions. Mick Connolly replied with a penalty for Cobh.

Bandon lost to U.C.C. in the Junior Three League South 19-17.Gearoid O’Leary and Liam Dempsey scored tries for Bandon and Ivor Helen converted both and also kicked a penalty.
