Laya Healthcare Schools Blitz Kicks Off At IIP
10th May 2016 By Munster Rugby
The Munster Rugby Under 18 laya healthcare 10 a-side schools blitz will take place tomorrow at Irish Independent Park from 10am.
Approximately 30 schools from throughout the province will participate in the one day event which promises to be an excellent spectacle of rugby.
Laya healthcare are very excited to be renewing their title sponsorship for the fourth consecutive year, for what is lining up to be a great day of games.
As part of this season’s tournament, laya healthcare in conjunction with Advanced Medical Services will be promoting their concussion education programme ‘Head On’. A draw will take place at the event with the opportunity to win free baseline studies.
Commenting at the launch Deputy Managing Director at laya healthcare D.O. O’Connor said “we are delighted to once again sponsor the Munster Rugby U-18 Blitz. It is a fantastic event to support, with over 450 students participating from all over Munster.”
“It’s great to see so many students getting active, becoming more involved in sport and tournaments like this, and ultimately looking after their health. Earlier this year we launched ‘Head On’, a concussion screening programme specifically for amateur rugby players. It’s vital that young players, parents and coaches understand the signs and symptoms of concussion. Through this programme we will be extending the awareness and understanding of concussion, particularly repeated concussions, among younger players.
“We are looking forward to a great day out on the 11th May at Irish Independent Park and I wish every team taking part the very best of luck”.
Munster Rugby Coach Development Manager and Blitz Coordinator Keith Murphy said "We are thrilled to once again have laya healthcare on board as the sponsor for the Munster Schools blitz. The 10-a-side competition has grown significantly over the past five years and has been a very productive environment for young players to express themselves and have fun. This season we decided to go to U18 level, instead of U17, which will now include more schools participating. We will have approximately 30 teams, both boys and girls, competing on the day in Irish Independent Park"
