Laya Healthcare To Sponsor Schools Blitz
9th April 2015 By Munster Rugby
Munster Rugby are delighted to once again announce laya healthcare as the title sponsor of the Munster Rugby U-17 Schools 10-a-side blitz.
This year’s blitz takes place on Wednesday, April 22 in Rockwell College, Tipperary following an extremely successful blitz last year in Crescent College Comprehensive, Limerick. Laya healthcare are very excited to be renewing their title sponsorship for the third consecutive year, for what is lining up to be a great day of games.
D.O. O’Connor, Deputy Managing Director and Director of Business Development at laya healthcare commented at the launch in CIT: “We are delighted to once again sponsor the Munster Rugby U-17 Blitz. It is a fantastic event to support, with over 450 students participating from all over Munster. It is even more exciting this year to have the event open to girls’ teams, therefore making it more inclusive and reaching a wider number of participants.”
Munster Rugby Coach Development Manager and Blitz Co-Ordinator Keith Murphy said: “We are thrilled to once again have laya healthcare on board as the sponsor for the U-17 Schools blitz. The 10-a-side competition has grown significantly over the past four years and has been a very productive environment for young players to express themselves and have fun. We are looking forward to an exciting day of rugby in Rockwell College.”
Last season saw 22 teams from all over the province take part and this year the number of teams is expected to rise again with the competition growing year on year. The teams will be split into two sections; 'A' schools competing in one section, and the emerging rugby schools in the other. Not only is this a great event for all those participating but the modified game with fun, fast flowing and energetic playing style will ensure an enjoyable spectacle for all fans and supporters.
This year’s competition will also feature a girls’ tournament for the first time with five school teams already confirmed, bringing the total number of participants to 450 boys and girls from schools across Munster set to experience this fun and explosive game of rugby.
In addition to the 10's competition, the IRFU Leisure Rugby Department will also be running a 'Touch Rugby' event with 16 teams expected to take part. Touch is a minimum contact form of rugby which is one of the most popular variants of the sport of rugby at all levels and ages. Touch rugby is expanding into schools all over Ireland.
