Limerick Charity Cup Kicks Off New Season.

Limerick Charity Cup Kicks Off New Season.

The Domestic season kicks off this evening with the first quarter final of the Limerick Charity Cup.

Thomond travel to Bruff in the opening game of the Limerick Charity Cup which has a 7.30 kick off.

Bruff will be anxious to continue their great run as a senior club following their promotion to Division 1B of the All Ireland League. Home advantage should give Bruff the edge but Thomond will be anxious to make their own mark and will make things difficult for the home side.

Two more quarter finals in this competition are scheduled for Friday evening. Holders Young Munster begin their defence against Third Division side Nenagh Ormond at Clifford Park with a 7.30 kick off. After a successful season which saw “The Cookies” win promotion to Division 1A of the All Ireland League and also regain the ODM Financial Munster Senior Cup.

Nenagh made a poor start to last season which probably cost them promotion to Division 2 and will be eager to make a better start this time but the odds must be on the home side advancing.

At Rosbrien Old Crescent entertain Shannon. A win for either side is vital after an indifferent season last year. Both sides will be going out for a win with Shannon’s experience likely to see them book a semi final place.

The other remaining quarter final will see Garryowen play U.L. Bohemian at Dooradoyle on next Wednesday 1st September.

As a result of meeting three times last season in the AIB All Ireland League, Cork Constitution will meet Dolphin at Temple Hill on Saturday with a 2.30 start in the final of the 2009/2010 Cork Charity Cup final.

Con’ having won two of those meetings last season will start as favourites to retain their title.

Several Junior clubs get their season under way with friendlies ahead of their competitive season.
