A recent girls' blitz was held at Listowel RFC Denis Kelleher

Earlier this month, the Munster Rugby Domestic department held a mini blitz for girls’ teams from Tralee, Killarney, Kanturk, Killorglin and special guest Carrick On Suir at host club, Listowel RFC.

A selection of teams from U10 and U12 to U13 level attended the blitz with 52 players developing their rugby on the day, and coaches from across the clubs taking part were on hand to help the games run smoothly.

The Munster Rugby Domestic department placed an emphasis on the social and health benefits for girls’ rugby when co-ordinating and structuring the event.

The blitz aimed to progressively introduce girls to contact rugby, in a safe and controlled environment, enabling them to be better prepared going forward to playing in full-contact competitions.

The next girls’ blitz will take place in January 2018 at Killarney RFC.
