LIT v UL In Local College Derby Fixture

UL v LIT is a fixture that has become a mainstay in the college rugby calendar since the first game in 1997.

This fixture is held for the O’Brien Brothers who passed away tragically in the USA. The John/Andy O'Brien Memorial trophy is the prize that awaits the victors with UL hoping to lift the trophy for the fourth time in-a-row. This is a huge opportunity to honour two of the greatest rugby ambassadors in Limerick city and their family by hosting this event in Old Crescent RFC after an absence of two years due to clashes with late college fixtures.

A highly entertaining game will be provided by both sides. UL will be well represented with Eoin Cahill as head coach and Tadhg O’Donovan as the backbone of the side. While LIT is driven by head coach and College Development Officer Joy Neville and backs coach Brian Tuohy. Over the years players competing in this fixture have included current Ireland Captain Paul O'Connell, David Quinlan and Munster Skills Coach Ian Costello, representing UL while representatives of LIT included long-serving Munster prop Marcus Horan, Andrew Thompson and Colm McMahon.

LIT V UL historically provides a well contested and entertaining game of rugby. Both sides clashed twice this year in the college league with LIT defeating UL 27 – 15 in the first round and UL claiming revenge in the second clash with a victory over LIT winning 24 – 17.

The latest instalment of the UL-LIT rivalry will take place on Tuesday 1st April at Old Crescent RFC. Kick-off is at 5pm with the gates opening from 4pm. Tickets are available at the ground. This year's fixture is due to include some of the best players that the AIB League has to offer from some of Limerick's strongest clubs.
Both colleges are excited by the generous offer of Old Crescent to open its gates for what should be a great game of college’s rugby.

Ticket costs: Adult: €;10 which will include Burger, Beverage, entertainment (band) and access into Crush 87 that Evening.
