Mid Week Schools Roundup

Ard Scoil Ris booked their place in the second round of the Avonmore SuperMilk Munster Schools Senior Cup as Cbs booked their place in the finals of the Barry and Kidney Cup.

Midleton College 6, Ard Scoil Ris 13.
Ard Scoil Ris advanced to the next round of the Avonmore Supermilk Munster Schools Senior Cup with a hard earned victory over Midleton College at the Towns Park.

Entering the final minutes of this contest an upset looked on the cards with the sides tied 6-6 and Midleton dominating, but Ard Scoil Ris steadied the ship and in injury time their center Robbie Deegan cut through the Midleton defence to touch down under the posts and Robbie Burke converted to setup a meeting with C.B.C. in the next round.

The Limerick side dominated the opening half. Full back Ronan McKenna and out half Burke were posing numerous problems for the Midleton defence where yet again Ben Mitchell as Midleton’s last line of defence was coping with everything that came his way.

Burke was off target with a penalty after 5 minutes for the Limerick side, but made amends with efforts on 15 and 21 minutes to lead 6-0.

Slowly Midleton began to settle into the tie as their pack began to take control in the forward exchanges. Midleton’s skipper Ned Hodson was off target with a penalty on the stroke of half time.

Hodson opened his side’s account three minutes after the break and levelled mid way through the second half as the Midleton forwards were completely in control.

Rory Hurley was off target with a drop goal effort minutes from time for Midleton and then came Ard Scoil’s late rally.
