Schools in West Cork and Kerry resume rivalries in blitzes at three different age levels under the Marks & Spencer Emerging Schools Competition.
The West Cork and Kerry region has produced some of the finest young talent in the Province in the past few years, with Darren Sweetnam and Fineen Wycherley just two of the latest stars involved in the Pro team.
Clubs in the region have been progressing, with Bandon RFC doing extremely well at Munster Junior level, and with Bandon Grammar reaching a historic first semi-final in the Senior Cup, rugby in the South-West is putting its best foot forward.
Some of West Cork and Kerry’s most promising rugby schools got their ongoing Marks & Spencer Emerging Schools competition back underway this week, with U15 players from 10 school secondary schools playing 11-a-side blitzes in each region.
Players from Meanscoil Phadraig Naofa Castleisland, Colaiste Bhreanainn Killarney, St Josephs Ballybunion, Intermediate School Killorglin, St Michaels College Listowel, Mercy Mounthawk Tralee, St Marys CBS Tralee, Pobailscoil Chorca Dhuibhne and Castleisland CC in Kerry.
Colaiste Ide Agus Iosef Abbeyfeale in Limerick County, and Schull, Maria Immaculata Dunmanway, Colaiste Pobail Bantry, Mount St Michael Rosscarbery, and Skibbereen Community School in West Cork have all taken part in the 1st year, U15 or U17 eleven a side blitzes this season thus far, with Milltown, Kenmare, Cahersiveen and St Brogans to have competed in one of the remaining blitzes by the end of the current school year.
These are just some of a number of competitions running across the province with other blitzes going ahead in Cork City, North Cork, Waterford, Limerick, Tipp and Clare.
