The Mungret Cup and Shield competitions commenced last week with Colaiste Pobail Beanntrai taking on Clonmel High School on Tuesday in CIT.

This year sees 6 schools included in both competitions – Colaiste Pobail Beanntrai, High School CBS, Villiers, St Clements, Midleton College and SMGS Blarney.

The Mungret Cup is set at U19 age grade while U16s compete in the Shield. The fixtures are set for both teams to play simultaneously and the league format pre Christmas determines the seedings for the knockout competition post Christmas.

These schools, for the second year running,  also automatically enter the Senior and Junior cup qualifiers to be played in November.

Bantry and Clonmel played out two very entertaining games with Clonmel coming out on top in the U19 fixture and Bantry in the U16.

Munster Rugby would like to thank CIT and their newly appointed Rugby Officer, Denis Corridan for hosting these games.
