Munster Club 7s U15 and U18

Last Saturday saw Shannon RFC host the second day of Munster Club 7’s for U15 and U18 girls.

Following on from the opening round of the 7s in Carrick-on-Suir last weekend, approximately 200 girls from across the province descended on the Limerick club to take part in the second weekend of this increasingly popular event.

Eight U15 teams and seven U18 teams from clubs including Carrick-on-Suir, Youghal, Shannon, Kilrush, Listowel, Bantry, Mallow, Abbeyfeale and St Marys played their part in 20 games across the day.

The event was organised by Ger Healy, Youth Coordinator for the Munster Women’s Committee, with the help ""of volunteers and Munster Rugby Community Rugby Officer Amanda Greensmith.

Speaking after the event, Greensmith was delighted to see such a large turnout for the event.

“The numbers are really strong and in particular it’s great to see some clubs competing for the first time. Some would have been in development last year, are now competing and will soon join our upcoming league.

“Many of the girls will have seen Ireland do so well in the Women’s Rugby World Cup and not forgetting the Munster ladies with their interprovincial success. That inspires the next generation to get out and play and we’re delighted to encourage them and nurture their talent at these events.”

The next date for the 7’s Blitz is Saturday October 25th in Abbeyfeale RFC.
