Munster Club U16 & U18 Finals
21st February 2007 By Munster Rugby
With a feast of top notch rugby action ahead for the weekend, some of Munster’s quality young players will be competing in the finals of the Munster Club Championship in Midleton RFC on Sunday next February 25th 2007.
U16 Munster Club Final
Highfield v Waterpark
Kick off 12.30pm
U18 Munster Club Final
Waterpark v Sunday’s Well
Kick off 2.15pm
In the U16 final at 12.30pm, Highfield and Waterpark will meet in what promises to be a titanic battle. Waterpark progressed to the final of the U16 Munster Club Championship with a hard fought win over a very fine Castleisland U16 side at Bruff RFC on Wednesday. With the final score seeing Waterpark claim a 13-10 victory, the game was played in the true sprit of Munster Rugby and some fine skills and running rugby was displayed by both teams.
Then, at 2.30pm Waterpark’s U18 team will face Sunday’s Well after they came through their respective semi finals. On Saturday last, Waterpark travelled to Castleisland with the home side starting strongly with a try and conversion in the opening minutes. Waterpark came back strongly and after some fine defending by the Castleisland team they broke the line and scored a fine team try. This score was added to a number of minutes later. Castleisland continued to contest the game and came close a number of times to scoring but were denied by some fine defensive and counter-attacking work by a strong Waterpark side. Waterpark won the game 37 to 7, however the scoreline does not accurately reflect the high quality of play from both sides. Their opponents on Sunday are Sunday’s Well who came through a tough semi final against Bruff on Saturday last to win 8-3 at home. In a hard fought and strongly contested semi final last Saturday. Both sides played some very good rugby in what were trying conditions. Both clubs can be justly proud of the quality of players that they are producing at Youth level.
The winners of the finals will progress to the All Ireland Club Semi-Finals and hopefully onward to the All Ireland Final.
Come and support your team on Sunday at Midleton RFC in what promises to be two great games.
