Munster Clubs Boys Cup Finals Roundup

It was a busy day in Virgin Media Park this evening as the Munster Clubs Boys Cup finals took place.

There were U16 and U18 cups up for grabs with Ennis taking the U16 title and Waterpark taking the U18 title.

Two very exciting games in front of a lively crowd who braved an orange weather warning to show their support.

Old Christians 13-14 Ennis

It was Old Christians that got the first score on the board in the 13th minute as full back Liam Kelleher broke the line and crashed over in the corner. The conversion that followed just missed the posts.

Ennis were reduced to 14 in the 18th minute as prop Kian MacGearailt was sent to the bin for a high tackle .

Old Christians were in for the 2nd time in the 22nd minute as Brian Barry barrelled over. But the wind was once again a hindrance as the conversion dropped short.

It was Old Christians who closed out the first half with a penalty in the 30th minute which was easily slotted over by Sean O’Regan.

Running into the sheds at half time Old Christians led 13-0 after what was a hotly contested half.

Ennis were the first to make a run for the line in the second half but this effort was not to be as Old Christians held them up over the line.

A break from Ennis hooker got them back within touching distance but it was Daniel Moloney who touched down in the 35th minute. The conversion that followed drifted just wide of the posts.

A penalty try for Ennis in the 41st minute put the Clare side in front for the first time as they lead 13-14.

With just seconds left on the clock Ennis were once again reduced to 14 as Paddy O’ Keefee was sent to the bin.

A battle to the very end but it was Ennis who came away with the spoils as they win 13-14.

Waterpark 22 – 21 Bruff

Bruff got the scoring underway early on as Jamie Walsh crashed over with just 55 seconds on the clock. Matthew Daly sent the conversion right through the uprights.

After a tough battle in the middle of the field, Bruff found form once again as Andy Purcell found the white wash in the 12th minute. Matthew Daly followed with the conversion.

Waterpark got themselves on the board in the 16th minute as Hugh Power crashed over. Ben Wallis followed with the conversion.

Bruff were reduced to 14 in the 21st minute as scrumhalf Cathal Garvey was sent to the bin.

Waterpark made a fantastic break in the 24th minute but were unfortunately caught short as they were held up over the line.

Waterpark equalised on the stroke of half time as Andrew Scanlon crashed over. Ben Wallis sent the conversion through the uprights bringing the score to 14-14 with a massive second half ahead.

It was a penalty in the 46th minute that put Waterpark in front for the first time as outhalf Ben Wallis sent it flying over.

But Bruff retaliated just minutes later with an intercept try from centre Aidan Caroll. Daly followed with the extras.

With just over 20 minutes remaining Bruff led 17-21.

But Waterpark came back with a try of their own from number 8 Hugh Power. A tricky kick from the sideline followed as Ben Wallis sliced it just wide.

With 56 minutes on the clock, just a single point separated the two sides.

It was a tightly contested second half but it is Waterpark who come away with the spoils in the end with a 22-21 win.
