It was a busy day in Virgin Media Park yesterday as the Munster Clubs Girls Cup finals took place.

There were U16 and U18.5 Cups up for grabs with Richmond-Scarriff taking the U16 title and Clonakilty taking the U18.5 title while Fethard & District RFC won the U14 title.

Munster Clubs Girls U16 Cup Final

Richmond-Scarriff 31 –  20 Clonakilty

Last year’s U14 cup winners took their success up a level as they were crowned winners of the U16 Cup title with a score line of 31-20.

Richmond-Scarriff got scoring underway in the 10th minute as out half Eden Waters crashed over for a converted try.

But Clon responded with a try of their own in the 23rd minute of play with the conversion that followed drifting wide in the stiff breeze.

Richmond-Scarriff were in three more times as the half time whistle drew ever closer bringing the score to 24-5.

But the West Cork outfit had one more trick up their sleeve and dotted down in the 30th minute.

At the break the score now stood 24-10 in favour of the Limerick side.

Richmond-Scarriff were the ones to once again get scoring underway in the second half as Sadhbh Whelan scored her second try of the afternoon.

But the West Cork side never shied away from the fight as they score a further two tries before the final whistle to bring the score to 31-20.

Try scorer Eden Waters was named Player Of The Match for Richmond-Scarriff.

Munster Clubs Girls U18 Cup Final

Clonakilty 50 -15 Ballincollig

Clonakilty completed the trifecta yesterday afternoon as the Munster U18.5 Cup joins the League Cup and the Schools Cup in the trophy cabinet in the West Cork town.

A dominant display from last year’s U16 winners saw them fight a off a strong Ballincollig outfit in an all Cork final that ended 50-15.

Clon got scoring going in the opening few minutes of the game with two tries and a conversion.

Ballincollig responded with a try of their own in the 25th minute. But Clonakilty proved to be a tough opposition as they dotted down a further three times before the half time whistle.

At the break the West Cork outfit had built a strong lead of 31-5.

The second half proved to be just as exciting as the first as Clonakilty scored a further three tries to clock up 50 points.

But Ballincollig stepped up and but points of their own on the board as they crashed over twice more to bring the final score to 50-15.

Ballincollig’s Niamh O’Mahony was named Player Of The Match for her part she played in an end-to-end game.
