Munster Derbies Galore For Senior Clubs
5th August 2020 By The Editor
There will be a feast of Munster derby action for the province’s senior clubs from September to November as they face off in the Energia Community Series – a standalone competition that will pit AIL teams from within the same province against each other in league format.
The Munster senior sides have been split into two conferences based on final positions in the 2019/20 All-Ireland League.
There will be seven rounds of fixtures with each team playing each other once.
There are eight teams in Munster Conference 1 and they range across three AIL divisions.
Division 1A heavyweights Cork Constitution, Garryowen, Young Munster and UCC take on Division 1B clubs Highfield and Shannon and the top two Munster sides in Division 2A – Cashel and Old Crescent.
The seven teams in Munster Conference 2 are drawn from AIL Division 2A and 2C.
The lower three Munster sides from AIL Division 2A – UL Bohemian, Nenagh Ormond and Dolphin – will be the teams to beat in Munster Conference 2 as they face Division 2C clubs Clonmel, Sunday’s Well and Midleton.
Stage 2 of the season will commence from January 1st and sees the easing of travel restrictions for teams in line with the IRFU’s principles of player welfare and COVID-19 Risk Mitigation.
