Munster Junior League Preview 6th November

It is back to Munster Junior League action this weekend with a full program across all Three Divisions.

Four of the main contenders for the First Division title face each other this weekend.

Leaders Cashel after their disappointing defeat in the All Ireland Junior Cup at Monivea face Tralee at home another side to lose last week in the Cup. This is a must win game for the Kerry side if they are to win the title as a defeat would see them eight points adrift of the Tipperary side.

Crosshaven after their excellent away win over Dundalk last week face a tricky encounter away to Waterpark. The Suirsiders were surprisingly beaten last day out away to Thurles and they know that another defeat would put a big dent in a return to the All Ireland League. With confidence high Crosshaven will fancy their chances of making it four league wins out of four.

Third placed Richmond three points behind leaders Cashel must fancy their chances of a home win over a depleted Clonmel side who have been hit hard by injuries and emigration in recent weeks.

Clanwilliam who have made a great start to their return to the top flight will fancy their chances of picking up the spoils at home to Cobh Pirates.

Old Christians after an excellent showing against Kilfeacle will hope to follow up that performance with another victory away to St. Senan’s.

There is a bottom of the table clash at Kilfeacle with the home side looking to get their first win of the campaign with a home win over Ballincollig.

Bottom side Skibbereen will also hope to kick start their season with a home win over Thurles.

The big game in the Second Division is the meeting of joint leaders Galbally and Killarney at the Kerry venue. Killarney have made a great start to life in this Division following their promotion and this will be a big test against a side that retained their Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Shield title last week against Kinsale. Galbally looked very determined to get promotion this season after just missing out last year and their experience should see them edge this tie probably by a narrow margin.

Newcastle West in joint third place with Kanturk will be looking for maximum points from their home encounter against pointless Charleville.

Kanturk travel to Youghal and will have it all to do to record a victory to keep their promotion hopes alive.

Mallow can not afford any more slip ups if they are to get back into the promotion race and they face a tricky encounter away to local rivals Muskerry at Ballyanly.

Castleisland also in the chasing pack for promotion are at home to Kinsale who made a terrible start to their campaign with two successive defeats. Neither side can afford another defeat at this stage and it should be a very close contest.

St. Mary’s after successive defeats by the joint leaders will hope to get back to winning ways with an away win over Newport.

Two sides at the wrong end of the table Ennis and Bandon meet at the Clare venue with a win crucial to both sides as they bid to avoid a relegation battle for the season.

Third Division leaders Scariff have a home tie against an ever improving Dungarvan side. They will probably have to do without their influential try scorer Barry Gibbons because of injury but with moral high in the club they will fancy their chances of holding on to top spot.

Fermoy who are in second place have a free weekend and the two sides behind them Abbeyfeale and Carrick-on-Suir meet at the west Limerick venue with a win crucial to both sides promotion chances.

Presentation with a game in hand have won their two games to date and they have a home tie against Waterford City a side they beat recently in the Martin O’Sullivan Cup Final and could repeat that victory to bring them into a challenging position for promotion.

There is a Kerry local derby at Baile na nGall when Corca Dhuibhne face Killorglin. The home side can continue their promotion challenge with a victory but a victory for Killorglin would see them move ahead of their opponents.

Douglas entertain Shandon at Moneygourney in another local derby and home advantage should see them take the points.

The two sides without a point Kilrush and Bantry Bay meet at the Clare venue with both desperate for their first win of the campaign and the more experienced Clare side should come out on top.
