Munster Juniors lead Junior Interprovincial Table

The Munster Junior XV have moved ahead of Leinster on points’ difference after the second series of games in Junior Interprovincial Championship and could clinch the title at Ballincollig next Saturday with a victory over Connacht.

Munster 21, Ulster 13.
Ulster who came into this game at Abbeyfeale as leaders surrendered their lead to a determined Munster side who deserved their eight point victory.

The scoring opened with a penalty from Munster’s out half Darragh Meade but James Thompson drew Ulster level with a penalty shortly after.

A try by St. Mary’s winger Barry Gibbons restored Munster’s lead and they held this 8-3 advantage to half time.

Ulster went in front early in the second half with a try by John Hanna which Martin Irwin converted.

Meade restored Munster’s lead with his second penalty and he than converted a try by Newcastle West’s full back Jerry Martin.

Meade and Irwin exchanged penalties as Munster denied Ulster the bonus point.

In the other tie Leinster defeated Connacht at Creggs 23-17.
