Munster President Sends Condolences To Family
18th October 2016 By Munster Rugby
A statement from Munster Branch President Gerry O’Shea on the sudden passing of Head Coach Anthony Foley.
It was with immense sadness that we all received the news of the passing of our friend Anthony Foley at the weekend and on behalf of every rugby club in Munster and the wider rugby family, I would like to extend my condolences to Anthony’s family.
The thoughts and prayers of the entire rugby community are with his wife Olive, his two sons Tony and Dan, father Brendan, mother Sheila, sisters Orla and Rosie, and the extended Foley family.
Anthony loved the game of rugby and was a simply outstanding player, coach and leader. His record for Shannon, Munster and Ireland speaks for itself and it was no coincidence that his 15-year playing career with the club were among the most successful in Shannon’s 132 year history.
A real family man, he was an immensely popular, affable character with a huge amount of integrity.
As much as he will be missed in the rugby community, it pales in comparison to the huge loss he will be to his family and we hope they can find some comfort in this incredibly difficult time.
Gerry O’Shea
