Munster Rugby Hosts Leprechaun Rugby Course For UCC Students

Munster Rugby recently held an IRFU Leprechaun Rugby Coaching Course for fifty 2nd year Sport Science Physical Education Students in UCC’s Mardyke Arena as part of their six week rugby module.

The programme is part of Munster Rugby's continuing relationship with UCC’s Physical Education Department having also recently assisted in the delivery of their new Fundamental Movement Skills module.

Leprechaun Rugby is a modified version of Rugby Union which can be played on all surfaces. It incorporates playing Rugby from 4 a-side to 10 a-side and influences the core skills of running, passing, evading, communicating and full player interaction. It is relevant for all age groups and to non rugby players and is a very enjoyable opportunity to gain an understanding of the game.

This course will give the students an opportunity to develop general active skills within the physical education curriculum. The other core areas developed over the course were FMS, Key Factor Analysis, 'Game Sense' and Teaching Games for Understanding.

Munster Rugby would like to thank UCC for hosting the course.
