Munster Rugby in the Community
1st June 2010 By Munster Rugby
Munster Rugby in association with FAS Waterford recently completed a 20 week pilot course aimed at developing rugby coaches within the Waterford area.
This culminated in a County Tag Blitz held in the Waterford Crystal Sports Centre with 43 teams participating.
Each school was given a rugby playing country as their theme and school pupils took part in a parade before the event with flags and costumes on display representing their allotted country. The noise and colour of the parade contributed to a great day.
Feedback from the schools on the programme has been excellent. Due to the success of this initiative Phase 2 of the scheme has now been approved. This will comprise further training modules for the participants including IT and practical sessions each week facilitating “Rugby in the Community” programmes such as Street Leagues and Beach Tag.
As a result of the programme the three clubs within the Waterford area, Waterpark RFC, Dungarvan RFC and Waterford City RFC are delighted to welcome the increased number of new recruits arriving at training sessions.
