Munster Rugby Launch Girls Sevens
17th January 2013 By Munster Rugby
Munster Rugby is pleased to announce the launch of the Munster Schools 7’s Girls competition.
With the inclusion of women’s 7’s in the upcoming Olympics in Rio 2016 and the qualification of the Irish Womens 7’s team for the World Cup in Russia, 7’s rugby has recently experienced a boost in profile in Ireland.
The Munster 7’s competition is aimed at first and second year secondary school girls and will take place over three days commencing in March. Squads will consist of 12 players and points will be awarded for the combined games played over the three days of competition.
Prizes for the winners include a tour of Thomond Park Stadium as well as a special memento of the day before taking part in a training session with former Ireland 7’s player and Munster No.8 James Coughlan.
Speaking at the launch, Munster Women’s Rugby Officer Amanda Greensmith said “ I am delighted to be working on a programme which will open rugby up to a wider audience of girls. This will give them the opportunity to add another sport to their curriculum and who knows we might come across some future stars for Munster and Ireland Women’s rugby!.”
Should your school wish to enter the competition please registrar with Amanda Greensmith at amandagreensmith@munsterrugby.ie or telephone 086-0218320.
