Munster Rugby Summer Camps Cancelled

The Bank of Ireland Summer Camps are cancelled for 2020.

The 2020 Bank of Ireland Munster Rugby Summer Camps have been cancelled due to Covid-19.

A total of 22 venues across the province were scheduled to host Summer Camps during July and August for boys and girls aged 6-12.

The Munster Rugby School of Excellence which includes residential and non-residential camps for boys and girls in Rockwell College and Bandon Grammar School has also been cancelled, as well as the English & Rugby Camps which will now not take place this summer.

Following Government and HSE guidelines, the Munster Rugby Development Department have consulted with key stakeholders and believe the cancellation of camps is the correct decision to take to align appropriately to the five-phase plan for Ireland to emerge from lockdown and to ensure the protection of our staff, coaches and players.

Refunds will be processed for all camps with information communicated to attendees over the coming days.

Munster Rugby Participation & Operations Manager, Damon Urlich, said: “We are extremely disappointed to confirm the cancellation of Summer Camps, the School of Excellence and the English & Rugby Camps.

“The safety and protection of all involved is our priority when delivering Munster Rugby camps and with social distancing measures still very much in place it is not possible to proceed with our existing camp programmes.

“The traditional Summer Camp offering cannot be provided however we will continue to assess the options available to offer modified camp activities later in the summer, subject of course to Government and HSE guidelines.

“The camps are a highlight of our summer programme with over 1800 children attending Summer Camps across the province last season and our inaugural School of Excellence also proving to be a huge success.

“For now, we are committed to ensuring the safety of all associated with the camps and we look forward to welcoming everyone back next summer when hopefully the camps will be operating as normal.”
