2nd July 2013 By Munster Rugby
The annual Munster Rugby Talent Camp kicked off today at Rockwell College beginning with an induction for over 100 Munster Representative players and their parents ahead of the five week programme.
Munster Academy Manager Peter Malone and Munster Rugby Development Manager Ultan O’Callaghan addressed the IRFU Long Term Player Development pathway from age grade to senior level and spoke of the high level of commitment the players must give in order to progress.
Players have been selected from Under 20, Under 19 and Under 18 (clubs and schools) over the past few months as part of the Munster player identification process and will reside in Rockwell College from Tuesday to Thursday until the beginning of August taking part in extensive training programmes.
Programmes will include on-pitch activities, strength and conditioning and player welfare tutorials focusing on diet and nutritional needs.
The Munster Rugby Talent Camp will incorporate preparations for the upcoming interprovincial campaigns commencing this September while giving players, coaches and management a unique opportunity to familiarise themselves with all squads.
Throughout this five week period it is envisaged players will be identified for the Academy and Development Squads as part of Munster Rugby’s overall objective in building for the future.
The first gym session for the Age Grade Summer squads took place last evening at CIT which will continue on the off-days of the Munster Rugby Talent Camp. Pictured are the Munster U18 Clubs, Munster U18 Schools, Munster U19 and Musnter U20 Cork based players.
