Castletroy College booked their place in the semi-finals of this year’s Munster Schools Boys Junior Cup thanks to a 18-16 win over St Munchin’s in Thomond Park.

St Munchin’s took an early 3-0 lead in the first five minutes thanks to Oisin Madden’s well struck penalty from 30m out.

Castletroy responded with a try from Cian O’Hanlan which was converted as they took a 7-3 lead.

Madden responded with a penalty for St Munchin’s which reduced the deficit to just one point before Tyler Kelly crossed in the corner for Castletroy to give them a 12-6 lead. The conversion went wide as did a penalty attempt from Robbie Widger just before the break.

On the resumption of the second half, the sides traded scores with Dan Foley scoring a converted try for St Munchin’s with the Corbally school also notching a penalty but Castletroy were able to add six points from the tee themselves to leave them with a 18-16 victory.

Castletroy will now meet the winners of Rockwell and Ardscoil Rís in the semi-finals while St Munchin’s will have another opportunity when they meet Limerick rivals Crescent College Comprehensive in the quarter-finals.
