Munster Schools Boys Junior Cup Roundup

Presentation Brothers College 12 – 29 St. Munchins

It was St. Munchins that opened the scoring as Alex Fennell broke the and ran in in the seventh minute. Donnacha McKenna nailed the conversion that followed.

Munchins were in again just five minutes later as Dara Giltinane picked and went off the back of a collapsed break away maul. The conversion that followed just floated wide.

PBC finally found themselves over the line in the 15th minute only to be held up.

They eventually got scores on the board through tight-head prop Daniel Lim as he crashed over in the 19th minute. David Nolan added the extras.

Heading in at half time the Limerick side lead 12-7 with a big 30 minutes to come.

The Cork side were first to score in the second half as a popped ball from James Herrick sent full back Matthew McCarthy over in the corner in the 34th minute.

Pres were reduced to 14 in the 42nd minute as scrumhalf George Hook was sent to the bin.

Munchins were in again in the 47th and 54th minute with tries from Darragh Mullane and Sam McGlynn with McKenna making just one of the conversions.

Munchins sealed the deal in the closing minutes of the game as outside centre Alex Fennell crashed over for his second try of the afternoon.

Bringing the final score to 12-29 in favour of the Limerick side.

Munchins will now go straight into the semi finals while PBC will have to await their faith in the quarter finals.

Rockwell College 28 – 21 Castletroy College

All eyes turned to Fethard Town Park for the clash between Tipperary side Rockwell College and Limerick’s Castletroy College in the second of the semi final qualifiers.

Castletroy got scores on the board first with a try from number 8 Conor Ryan which was then converted by winger Danann Glynn.

But Rockwell retaliated with a try of their own on the 15th minute through Tadhg Dunlea with Cameron Fitzpatrick adding the extras.

Castletroy were in again in the 23rd minute when tight-head prop Michael Hickey crashed over putting them sevens points ahead.

But a Rockwell penalty reduced that down to just four points before the break.

Rockwell went back-to-back in the opening minutes of the second half as they scored two unanswered tries through Robert Carrigan and Leon Bergin.

But Castletroy struck one last time through Michael Hickey.

Back-to-back penalties from Cameron Fitzpatrick secured the win for Rockwell college with a score line of 28-21.

They will now go straight to the semi finals while Castletroy will meet CBC in the quarter final.

Christian Brothers College 33 – 0 Clonakilty Community College

The final game of the afternoon was the quarter final eliminator between Christian Brothers College and Clonakilty Community College.

CBC opened up the scoring as winger Max O’Riordan crashed over in the ninth minute. Harry Quinlan followed with the extras.

CBC were in again in the 15th minure after an intercept try from Quinlan. The conversion attempt was subsequently blocked down by an approaching Clonakilty player.

The scores on the board at half time was 12-0 in favour of the Sidney Hill dwellers.

A yellow card for Rhoan Draper in the 33rd minute saw Clonakilty drop to 14 men for a period.

But it was CBC who got the wash of the green for the remainder of the game as they crashed over three more times through Christian Murphy, Ruaidhri McElwain and Alex Maher.

The game ended 33-0 in favour of 2020 winners Christian Brothers College.
