Munster Schools Junior Cup Roundup

Junior Cup action took centre stage this week as the semi-finals between St Munchins and CBC and Rockwell College and Bandon Grammar were up for decision as well as the Girls Junior Cup quarter-finals.

St Munchins 3 – 17 Christian Brothers College

It took CBC 30 minutes to get scores on the board in Thomond Park this afternoon as Louis Carroll crashed over for their first try.

Munchins bit back just two minutes later with a penalty from the boot of Mckenna.

Christians bounced back in the second half with back to back tries from Hugh Downey and Louis Carroll bringing the full time score to 3-17 in favour of the Sidney Hill residents.

Rockwell College 12 – 15 Bandon Grammar School

Rockwell College were first to strike in Fethard Town Park as full back Joe O’Donovan crashed over in the 17th minute. Cameron Fitzpatrick added the extras.

But Bandon fought back and scored a try of their own through Alexander Bramoullé just before the half time whistle sounded to bring the score to 7-5.

A penalty from the boot of Bandon’s Jamie Hicks but the Cork side ahead for the first time.

The 50th minute saw Bandon show their strength as a maul trundled towards the line with Coleman dotting down. Hicks’ conversion made it 15-7.

Rockwell weren’t finished as hooker Luke Thompson crashed over as the clock hit the read. A missed conversion saw out the game as West Cork side Bandon Grammar advance to their first ever Junior Cup Final.

They will not meet Cork outfit CBC in Virgin Media Park the week commencing 24th of March.

The Munster Schools Girls Junior Cup quarter finals have also been taking place over this past month with two games going to post this week.

Current title holders Sacred Heart Clonakilty overcame newcomers St Marys Secondary School Mallow 14-50 in Virgin Media Park to book their place in the semi-finals.

While Colaiste Muire Ennis overcame Colaiste Choilm Ballincollig 5-48 in UL.

Colaiste Muire Ennis will now meet Sacred Heart Clonakilty in the first semi-final and Ardscoil Mhuire will face off with Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrai.
