Munster Schools Update

Schools PRO Maurcie Hartery reflects on last weeks competitive action across the province.
The Bowen Shield took a break last week so the McCarthy Cup (U15) took center stage in the Province.
In the "A" section of the competition, an excellent PBC side proved too strong for St. Munchins with a 50 – 5 victory in Corbally. Jamie Butler scored a consolation try for St. Munchins. St. Clements had a well deserved and comfortable 48 – 22 win over Castletroy in St. Clements. Paul Ross, John Moloney, Cian Whyte and Rory Murphy scored tries for Castletroy College, with Jason Alyward converting one of the tries. In Tipperary, Crescent Comp beat Rockwell 22 – 7, with Rockwell's scores coming from a try from S Rapport and a N Kennedy conversion.
In the "B" section PBC once again had too much for Munchins with a 60 – 0 win, while Crescent proved too strong for Rockwell with a 36 – 5 win, with J Judez grabbing a try for Rockwell.
In the "C" section Colaiste Choilim had a great 32 – 26 victory over Scoil Pobail Bheanntrai in a hugely entertaining game in Ballincollig. This finishes Scoil Pobail Bheanntrai interest in this years McCarthy Cup after 2 close losses (the other to PBC) and an excellent victory over CBC.
In Limerick, the Senior (U19) and Junior (U16) City Cups were also in full swing. In the Senior section, Castletroy proved too strong for Crescent with a 19 – 6 victory in Crescent. Castletroy's points came from a Penalty Try, and a try from both Mark O'Meara and Niall O'Shea, with Jamie Heuston adding two conversions. Glenstal edged Ard Scoil Ris 23 – 21 to maintain their 100% record in the competition, in a very tight entertaining battle in Murroe. Tries from Jack Stafford and Johnny Williams, and 13 points from the boot of Ben Healy guided Glenstal to victory. This week results leaves Glenstal and Castletroy, 1st and 2nd respectively with one round of games left.
In the Junior section, Crescent proved far too strong in a comprehensive 47 – 5 victory over Castletroy College, with Eoin Murphy scoring Castletroy's consolation score. This results leaves Crescent needing to win next week to reach the final and ends Castletroy's campaign. In the other match in the Junior City Cup, Glenstal setup mouthwatering clash with Crescent next week for a place in the final by beating Ard Scoil Ris 19 – 0. Glenstal's scores came from Emmet Alyward (Try), Andrew Hogan (Try x 2) and Caolan Dooley (Conversion x 2).
In other friendly games around the province St. Munchins won a tight affair 31 – 28 against Rockwell at Junior Cup "A" level, while Rockwell's "B" team proved to strong for the same opposition winning 43 – 15 in Corbally. Rockwell and CBC shared a victory each at U14 level with Rockwell winning 23 – 14 in one match, and CBC prevailing 34 – 14 in the other game.
