Rockwell College won the Senior Plate Final

A total of five senior and two junior teams from schools across Munster recently attended the IRFU Girls X7s National Finals at Energia Park.

After two successful rounds of qualifying and a Munster Finals Day, run by Participation Programme Co-Ordinator, Ray Gadsden, Colaiste Ide & Iosef (Abbeyfeale), Skibbereen Community School, Ard Scoil Mhuire (Limerick), Rockwell College and St Anne’s Community College (Killaloe) went through to the final stages from the senior teams (U18), while St Anne’s College and Rockwell College qualified from the junior teams (U15).

The Girls X7s game is played on a half pitch with seven players on each team learning the basics of rugby, including catch/pass, tackle, ruck contact area, lineout and scrum set-up.

The National Finals day provided an excellent display of rugby from all of the schools involved as the competition continues to develop.

During the final stages of the competition, the Munster schools were well represented with Skibbereen Community College, Ard Scoil Mhuire (Limerick) and Rockwell College all reaching the senior semi-finals with both Rockwell College and St Anne’s Community College progressing to their respective junior semi-finals.

St Anne’s Community College went through to the the Junior Plate final and were edged out after Erne Integrated College from Ulster scored a winning try in the last play of the game.

Rockwell College seniors contested the Senior Plate final while their junior team contested the Cup final. Both teams defeated strong competition from Enniskillen Royal Grammar in the senior final and Gorey Community School in the junior final respectively.
