The Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup final is just under a month away with holders Garryowen set to meet Cork Constitution at Thomond Park on Saturday 5 January, kick-off 2pm.

The new year clash between the two sides will mark the 128th Munster Senior Challenge Cup final as Garryowen and Cork Constitution both lead the overall honours list.

There are 11 titles between the two clubs with holders Garryowen having won the competition 39 times compared to Cork Constitution’s 28 trophy lifts.

Garryowen and Cork Con have won the last seven competitions between them with the Temple Hill club’s five-in-a-row positioned in between the Light Blues last two successes in 2012 and 2018.

Shannon lead the way on the honours list with 19 titles after this season’s finalists, UCC are a close fourth with 18, while Young Munster have recorded seven final victories and Dolphin have lifted the trophy six times.

UL Bohemians, Sunday’s Well and Highfield have all contributed to the top winners list over the years, as have Bandon and Bruff with their respective title wins in 1886 and 2011.
