Munster Senior Cup Round-Up

There were no major upsets in the Second Round of the Munster Senior Cup at the weekend.

Last year’s beaten finalists Garryowen had to withstand a late rally at the Tipperary venue before emerging with a 20-18 victory away to Nenagh Ormond. Dan Fogarty gave Nenagh an early lead but Garryowen hit back with a try from Dave Sherry which Jamie Gavin converted. Gavin and Fogarty exchanged penalties to leave Garryowen ahead 10-6 at half time. Tries from James McInerney and Andrew O’Byrne saw the Sky Blues lead 20-6 but in an exciting finish two tries from Anthony Kavanagh and a Fogarty conversion reduced the gap to two points as the visitors held out for a win.

Holders Cork Constitution booked their place in the quarter finals with a 34-8 win over Sunday’s Well at Temple Hill. Tries from Alan Ross and Ned Hodson and a Darragh Lyons conversion had the home side 12-8 ahead at the break. James Mulcahy scored a try for the ‘Well and Shane O’Riordan kicked a penalty. Tries from James Ryan and Rob Jermyn, James Murphy and Chris McAuliffe ensured victory for the Temple Hill side with Lyons converting one of the tries.
