Munster U-18 Girls Finish On A High
4th November 2014 By Munster Rugby
The Munster U-18 Girls beat Connacht 12-0 in the final day of the IRFU Interprovincial Development Series at a very wet St. Mary’s RFC in Limerick on Saturday.
Stephanie Nunan and Kate English were the try-scorers and Siobhán Court added a conversion as the girls
The game was the follow-up to the U-18 girls outing two weeks ago in Westmanstown, Dublin where they played Ulster and Leinster coming away with two narrow losses, losing 10-5 against Leinster and 5-0 against Ulster.
Munster started the game in a promising manner and spent much of the opening minutes in the Connacht half but, despite their efforts, the Connacht defence held firm.
The Connacht girls began to find their rhythm and turned defence into attack on a number of occasions seeking to gain territory through the midfield.
Munster’s defence soaked up the pressure and with little over 30 mins gone a sweeping move to the right saw winger Nunan touch down out wide giving Munster a 5-0 lead at the break.
The weather deteriorated further in the second half but the resolve and ambition of both teams remained for what was a hard-fought battle.
With about 20 minutes remaining the Munster nerves were further settled when English used some excellent footwork to beat the Connacht defence for a second try.
McCourt duly obliged with the conversion and Munster were able to see out the game for a 12-0 win.
