Munster U18 Girls Crowned Interpro Champions

The Munster U18 Girls claimed their first Interpro title last Saturday following a 23-12 victory over Ulster at Barnhall RFC.
It was the Ulster girls who got off to a positive start claiming an unconverted try in the first 10 mins giving them an early advantage.
Munster soon worked back into the game and were duly awarded a penalty kick which half back Ciara Clancy failed to convert.
Clancy however made amends 5 minutes later to narrow Ulster’s advantage 5-3 going into the break.
Munster started the second half with intent creating many opportunities in their opposition’s 22.
This pressure was rewarded when No. 8 Rebecca Hayes touched down under the posts following some great passages of play from both Munster’s pack and backline attack.
Clancy added the extras giving the lead to Munster for the first time at 10-5.
Munster continued to build, pinning Ulster back in their own half for most of the second period. This culminated with a great move from the backs which saw Stephanie Nunan make an impressive break through the middle of the pitch, passing to Muirne Wall who scored a superb try out wide.
Despite Clancy failing to convert, a high tackle on the 22 resulted in a penalty for Munster giving her the opportunity to make amends and extend Munster’s lead to 18-5.
With a great break down the left channel, Hayes crossed for her second try of the day. An unsuccessful conversion attempt left the score at 23-5 with 15 minutes to go.
Munster rang in the changes which saw Head Coach Eugene McCarthy ulilizing the entire bench.
Ulster capitalised on their advantage during a sin bin period for Munster and scored a try in injury time.
This was successfully converted in the last play of the game finishing up 23-12 to Munster.
