Munster U18 Schools Defeat Reigning Champions

Munster U18 Schools claimed two wins from two yesterday at Thomond Park Stadium following a 8-3 defeat over reigning champions Leinster, in the second match of their interprovincial campaign.

In a tightly contested fixture the first score came from Munster’s Ben Moloney following an offload from Captain Colin Deane, who beat two Leinster men on his attack sending the winger over the line to take a 5-0 lead just short of the interval.

Leinster narrowed the gap to 5-3 four minutes into the second half with a David Ryan penalty in front of the posts.

A quick response from Munster outhalf Ben Healy brought his side back into the driving seat with a 8-3 lead.

Reduced to 14 men in the final stages of the match, the home side managed to sustain their lead despite a significant amount of Leinster pressure to secure their second win of the series.

Deane took the honours of being the first captain to lift the Dudley Cup post match which was introduced this year in recognition of the late former Munster Schools Honorary Secretary Dudley Herbert.

Munster take on Ulster on Saturday, 10th September in CIT for their second meeting of the series before travelling to Donnybrook on Saturday, 24th September to conclude their campaign.
