Munster U19’s Prepare For Final Squad Selection

Munster U19 Head Coach Keith Murphy, is currently undergoing a final squad selection process ahead of this season’s interprovincial series.

A squad of 66 players were identified through the initial stage of selection early in the season where players were viewed through Munster club and school competitions. Selected players were then invited to attend two one-day camps in late October and early January for continued assessment.

On 23rd March last a squad of 29 players took part in a friendly at Ashbourne RFC against Ulster U19s and a further selection of 29 players competed a week later in Ennis RFC where they took on their Connacht counterparts.

This Wednesday, 3rd April, Munster U19s will play Leinster U19s at Portlaoise RFC (ko 12.30pm) which will include Munster players who recently represented Ireland Schools in France at the FIRA championship.

Players will then take part in a vigorous fitness testing process where the squad will be whittled down to 36. These players will compete in a charity match against Old Crescent U19s on 13th April, at Crescent College Comprehensive in a final player selection day.

This will see the squad reduced to 26 players who will take part in the five week Munster Talent Camp programme this summer together with the Munster U20, Munster 18 Clubs and Munster U18 Schools squads.
