Munster Well Represented On Ireland U19 Provincial 7’s Squad

An Ireland Under 19 Provincial squad participated in the UK School games last week in Sheffield, finishing up in 4th place.

The squad was made up of players from around the country who had been identified as part of a screening programme which started last June and took part in five training camps before heading to the competition in Sheffield.

Ireland's final squad of 12 consisted of 6 Munster based players all of whom are currently or previously have been involved in the Munster U18 squads.

The girls finished top of their pool at the end of the first day of the competition with wins over Wales Dragons B 29-0, England North 28-5, Scotland 28-12 and a draw against England South West.

This finish set up a semi final outing against England South West only for the girls to narrowly miss out on a golden score. The final game saw them play London & South West side who just pipped the girls 15-5.

The Ireland Under-19 Provincial side marks another step in the progression of developing a flow of players to sustain the burgeoning Women's Sevens programme. The aim for these young women now is a place in the Emerging Ireland Women's Sevens squad with an eye on the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.
