Munster Women Trial Days A Huge Success

Over the past two weekends in Fermoy RFC over 80 players were put through their paces by new Head Coach John O’ Sullivan and Assistant Coach Marie Barrett.

By Amanda Greensmith, Women's Community Rugby Officer

Both weekends provided an excellent opportunity for new and emerging players, along with experienced players to demonstrate their abilities and to push for a place on the Munster Ladies squad for the coming season. At the conclusion of the second trial match all players present had given John and Marie plenty of food for thought.

The training squad and coaches will be assisted this season by a very experienced back room team in the form of managers Denise Tracey and Fran Whooley, Physio Ann Marie Minogue and Strength and Conditioning Coach Lorna Barry.

Denise Tracey – Team Manager
As manger Denise brings a wealth of experience to the team and coaches. She played club rugby with Shannon Ladies from 1992 – 2006 and during this time was capped for both Munster and Ireland. During 2006 Denise acted a player manager/liaison for the Irish Ladies.

Frances Whooley – Assistant Manager
Frances is another valuable addition to the staff bringing plenty of experience with her. Playing her club rugby with Ballincollig RFC she captioned them to an AIL Division 2 title. Frances has also acted as manager for the Munster U19 ladies.

Ann Marie Minogue – Physio
Ann Marie is now in her third season with the Munster Ladies having first joined the team in 2008. Educated in Keele Unviersity, Staffordshire she has worked with Division 1 & 2 team around Limerick as well as the Munster Ladies U19 & U18 sides.

Lorna Barry – Strength & Conditioning Coach
Lorna comes to the Munster Ladies set up after a successful term with the U16/U17 regional development squad in Ballincollig RFC. Her previous experience has seen her work with both Clonmel RFC and Sunday’s Well RFC.
