My Job In Munster: Finny O’Regan

Finny O’Regan is Munster Rugby’s Community Rugby Officer for Cork.

Finny started playing rugby in PBC when he was eight years of age before moving on to his local club Highfield where he played and coached for the next 24 years. During that time he worked in Youghal Carpet Yarns, before he moved to work in Munster Rugby. ""

When did you join Munster Rugby?
I joined Munster Rugby in 1994 on a Fás/IRFU Scheme promoting Rugby in Cork City Primary Schools. After a few years I became Youth Development Officer with Munster Rugby in Cork City, I then progressed to Regional Development Officer covering Cork and Kerry and since 2008 I’m a Community Rugby Officer for Co. Cork.

What do you do?
I administer and tutor on Coaching Courses in Munster, run Transition Year and PLC Courses, Teacher Education Programmes, deliver the Play Rugby programme to primary and secondary schools throughout the county and province.

I also run summer and winter Cadet Development Programmes, Summer Camps, 1st,2nd, and 3rd level Tag and Rugby Blitzes. I up-skill coaches through workshops in clubs and schools, work with the Sports Partnership, local councils and communities for funding opportunities. I am essentially the first point of contact for Munster Rugby in the clubs and schools of my area.

What is the best part of your job?
Meeting and upskilling new coaches helping them along the IRFU Coaching Pathway, developing and promoting Rugby in clubs and schools throughout the province, helping with the Club Support Scheme, and being part of the Munster Rugby Development Team.

Most Memorable Match?
Munster’s first win in Castres in October 2000 where I was one of about 30 supporters, it was the start of an incredible journey in Europe for Munster Rugby.
