My Job in Munster: Keith Murphy
7th July 2015 By Munster Rugby
A Cork native, Keith worked as an auctioneer for 11 years before joining Munster Rugby. A former player with Dolphin, he also coached with Douglas, UCC and Sunday’s Well.
Since joining Munster, in addition to his role in the Development Office, Keith has also held a number of coaching positions. He was Head Coach of the Munster U18 Clubs and U19s, and Assistant Coach to the U20s inter-provincial team. He also spent two years as Assistant Coach to the Ireland Women's team.
When did you join Munster?
In April 2010
What do you do?
I manage the Coach Development Programme in Munster where we provide an average 12 IRFU coaching courses a year and facilitate coach development through mentoring, observing and providing support initiatives such as workshops, seminars and clinics.
What is the best part of your job?
I love working with coaches, discussing their philosophies and following their progressions once they have attended our coaching courses. It is also satisfying to see so many of our coaches completing their accreditation and qualifying to coach at their respective stage. I also enjoy the challenge of developing strategic support for coaches, with our main emphasis on providing quality professional development initiatives and one-to-one mentoring support.
Most memorable match?
It's difficult to pick out one and there have been many memorable games, but those that stand out more recently include Munster's Heineken Cup wins in 2006 and 2008, Ireland's Grand Slam triumph in 2009 and Liverpool's Champions League win in 2005!
