New Bank Of Ireland U14 Munster Club Cup Competition Begins

The Munster Youth Committee have launched a new Bank Of Ireland U14 Munster Boys Club Cup Competition.

Phase 1 of the competition kicked off earlier this month with 12 teams participating from clubs throughout the province.

The matches in the competition will consist of three 17-minute thirds with the final score counting after the completion of the second third. The final 17 minutes will provide an opportunity for the respective clubs to use all of their players so that participation is encouraged and that there is adequate game-time for all players.

Mike McInerney, Munster Youths Chairperson, expressed his excitement, saying:

“The competition is an opportunity to get much needed game time for club players and to encourage participation in the game. The committee are conscious of the increasing costs of travel for clubs so some games will be held in neutral grounds to minimise travel time for all clubs.”

Munster Rugby Committee Chairperson Packie Durkan welcomes this new competition.

“We have a feeling that this competition has fantastic potential to grow over the next couple of years and the format is hugely beneficial because it promotes participation for all players. The players and their clubs also have the opportunity play clubs from other parts of the province that they may not have yet played before.”

Phase 1 of the Bank of Ireland U14 Boys Munster Club Cup kicked off on the weekend of January 21/22 and will continue with games on Feb 11- 12 & March 4-5.

The Play-off schedule and format will be announced in due course but the final is scheduled for early April.

An U14 Blitz day is also planned for all clubs in April. Invitations will be sent to clubs in the coming weeks.
