SHANNON
Shannon Notes Weekending December 26th 2009
The final notes of 2009 will probably be the shortest of the year given we had a number of games cancelled which wasn’t entirely unexpected, The thirds and U/15’s games were called off and rescheduled for later on , but the senior 2nds game did go ahead and it proved to be a thriller. UL/Bohs game to Coonagh with their usual style of running rugby and looked as if they could register a big score, but a superb second half performance saw our lads come very close to snatching at the very least a draw. The visitors raced into an early lead and they looked very menacing indeed. The held a healthy advantage going into the break and what transpired seemed highly unlikely at that stage. A few positional moves and the introduction of a couple of players brought about a big change ion fortunes and the revival began. Barry Gibbons had crossed the line in the first half and that was added to with two more tries to bring us level with Bohs at 21-21. A late penalty by UL/Bohs gave them the advantage, but we had one last opportunity to draw level with a penalty of our own, but unfortunately it drifted wide. Despite the loss it was a stirring performance from the seconds especially in the second half and there are plenty of positives to work on.
Fixtures over the Christmas period are as follows.
Munster senior cup V Dolphin, Musgrave Park 27th December 2pm.
Thirds Gleeson league V Richmond, Garryowen, 27th December Green 2.30
Seconds league V Bruff, Coonagh 3rd January, 2.30
Women’s AIL V Young Munster Coonagh, 3rd January 1pm.
Finally I would like to wish all our members, players and supporters a happy and peaceful Christmas and another successful year to come.

Please keep an eye on the website for updates and fixture changes, with the snow this early in the week things will more than likely change on a daily basis. Mention of seasonal weather of course brings me along very nicely to the end of this year’s updates, I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself and the executive committee of Bruff RFC to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and let’s all hope that things will just get better in every way in the coming year. Here’s to a brilliant start to the “Tensies”.
Thanks for your attention during the year and we hope that we can improve things even more during the next twelve months.
