No Change At The Top Of Munster Junior League

Both Munster Junior League Division One joint leaders Clonmel and Richmond continued their winning ways with maximum point victories in the third series of games.

Defending champions Richmond entertained Waterpark at Richmond Park and emerged 37-10 winners. Tries by Pat Humphries, Jeff McNamara and Mike Kelleher and two conversions and two penalties by Brian Mullins gave the Limerick side a 25-5 half time lead. Joe McSweeney replied with a try for Waterpark. Finbar Hogan added two tries for home side in the second half and Mullins converted one. The visitor’s only reply was a try by Emmet O’Shea.

Clonmel stay joint top after they defeated St. Mary’s 30-17. A try by Jako Oosthuysen and a conversion and penalty by Conor Cooney had Clonmel 10-0 ahead after fourteen minutes. Two yellow cards for Clonmel just before the interval were punished by Mary’s with tries by Ryan Hartigan and Sean Markham either side of half time to level the scores. Cooney restored Clonmel’s advantage with a penalty but a try by Brian Purcell which Sean Lyons converted had Mary’s 17-13 in front. Cooney, Padraig Keating and Morgan Lyons added tries for the home side and Cooney kicked one conversion to secure the points.

Crosshaven went down to their fourth successive defeat of the season when they lost away to Kanturk 41-12. The home side led 17-7 at half time with four Darragh Meade penalties and a try by John Duggan. Kieran Doran replied with a try for the visitors and Ian Smith converted. Tries by Darragh Buckley, Luke McCabe, Dan McCabe and Peter Earlie saw Kanturk pick up the bonus point and Meade converted two. Crosshaven’s only reply was a try by Eamon Ring.

Kilfeacle moved into joint third place in the table with a 32-8 home win over Newcastle West. Pat Ryan, Gavin Heuston, Alan Mahony and Cormac O’Donoghue scored tries for the winners and Shane Luby kicked three conversions and two penalties. Sean Leahy replied with a try for Newcastle West and Alan Roche kicked a penalty.

Steven Hansel put in another impressive performance for Skibbereen as they defeated Clanwilliam 31-12 at the Tipperary venue. Tries by David Shannon and Ivan Jennings both converted by Hansel who also added a penalty had the visitors 17-0 ahead at half time. Hansel added two tries after the break which he also converted.

Cobh Pirates unbeaten run came to an end at home to Old Christians, when they went down 22-10. Tries by Aidan Ware and Rob Stapleton and a conversion and penalty by Conor Mangan gave the visitors a 15-7 half time lead. Mark Chandler scored a try for the Pirates which Eoin Geary converted. Tomas Maher scored a third try for Old Christians after the break and Mangan converted. Cobh’s only reply was a penalty by Geary.

A try by David Dunne and a conversion of a penalty try by Philip Noone was not enough for St. Senan’s who lost away to Tralee 24-10. Mike Deane and Eoin Murphy were try scorers for Tralee. Garrett Walsh kicked one conversion and Daniel Clarke added four penalties.

Presentation caused a big upset in the top game in Division Two when they defeated Mallow 13-10. A try by Stephen McGrath and a conversion and two penalties by Shane O’Brien gave the Rathuard side a 13-3 half time lead. Andy Cashman kicked a penalty for the visitors. Tom Gardner scored a try after the break for Mallow which Cashman converted.

Newport moved into top spot with a 28-16 home win over Youghal. Philip O’Brien scored three tries, two penalties and a conversion for the Tipperary side and Shane Ryan also added a try. Stephen Twohig replied with a try for Youghal and Lee McCarthy converted. Keith McCarthy kicked three penalties.

Muskerry defeated Ennis 26-24 at Ballyanly. The home side led 20-0 at half time with tries from Tim Keady, Shane Murphy and JJ Herlihy and Liam O’Donovan added a conversion and John Buckley kicked a penalty. Ennis hit back with three tries from John Moore and one by Eamon Talty and David Murphy kicked two conversions, but a late penalty by Buckley secured the win for Muskerry.

Killarney defeated newly promoted Dungarvan 34-3. Padraig Hallissey scored two tries for the Kerry side and Paul O’Sullivan, Damien Carroll and Colin McCarthy got one each. Padraig Sheahan kicked three conversions and a penalty. Conor Foley replied with a penalty for Dungarvan.

Castleisland opened their campaign with a 22-3 home win over Thurles. Thomas O’Sullivan, Matthew Ahern and Kieran Downey scored tries for the Kerry side and Sean Riordan kicked two conversions and a penalty. Owen Dwyer replied with a penalty for Thurles.

Kinsale got back to winning ways with a 23-14 victory at home to Carrick-on-Suir. Frazer Hodgson, Pat O’Regan and Robin O’Flynn all scored tries for Kinsale. Hodgson added a drop goal and Peter Murphy kicked a penalty and a conversion. Colm O’Dwyer replied with a try for the visitors and Charlie Boland kicked two penalties and a drop goal.

Kilrush and Killorglin both secured maximum point victories in the opening series of games in the Third Division.
Kilrush were 22-12 home winners over Corca Dhuibhne. Philip Burke scored two tries for the winners and John McCarthy one. Paul Conway kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Killorglin were 24-7 home winners over Douglas. Peter Slattery scored two tries for the winners and Andrew O’Reilly and David O’Sullivan got a try each. David Coffey and Trevor West each kicked a conversion. Eoin Philpott replied with a try and a conversion for the Cork side.

Fermoy defeated Ballincollig 14-13. The North Cork side led 7-6 at half time with a try by Stephen Dunne which Joe Lee converted to two penalties by Denis Galvin. A try by Brian O’Keeffe converted by Galvin looked like giving Ballincollig the points but a try seven minutes from time by Courtney Canning which Joe Lee converted gave Fermoy the spoils.

Dunmanway-Bantry Bay shared the spoils with Scariff after an 8-8 draw. Sean O’Shea scored a try for the west Cork side and Dan Sweeney kicked a penalty. Scariff replied with a try from Michael Bulger and a penalty by Barry Gibbons.

Cork Constitution defeated Dolphin 54-12 in the Munster Seconds League South at Musgrave Park. The home side led 12-9 at half time with three penalties by Eoin O’Shaughnessy and one from Chris Bannon to three from Brian Derham. Three tries from Eoin O’Donnell and one each by Edward Quirke, Michael Moynihan, Conor Fouhy and Jaydee Cruickshank and five conversions by Derham secured the points for the Temple Hill side.

Tries by Kevin Madigan and Willie Casey and a conversion and penalty by Richard McAuliffe was not enough for Bruff who lost away to Nenagh Ormond in the North Munster Seconds League 29-15.

In the Munster Junior Two League South Mitchelstown continued their good run with a 34-7 home win over Kanturk. Pat Norris scored two tries for the winners and Morgan Fox and Pat Molloy one apiece. Pat Magee kicked three conversions and two penalties and Paul Palmer also added a conversion.

Carrigaline defeated Clonakilty 38-5. Ciaran O’Shea scored three tries for the winners and Darren Twomey, Tony O’Keeffe and Donnacha Kiely got one each. Kiely kicked four conversions.

Tries from David Ahern and Gavin Burke both converted by Ahern helped Bandon to a 14-10 home win over Kinsale.
