ODM Financial Munster Senior Cup Quarter Finals Preview

4th November 2010 By Munster Rugby

The four quarter final ties in this years ODM Financial Munster Senior Cup competition has sides facing opponents from different Divisions and all will be eager to avoid a defeat or cause an upset.

It all begins on Friday evening under the Dooradoyle lights when Garryowen face U.L. Bohemian. Both sides have failed to make an impact in their respective leagues so far and will want to win to kick start their season. U.L. Bohemian knocked out the holders Young Munster 27-21 in the opening round and despite last week’s defeat by Bruff they will want to book a semi final spot.
Garryowen after losing two derby games at the start of the league bounced back with a fine performance against Dolphin but slipped up away to Blackrock College last week despite the best efforts of out half Declan Cusack. The home side have a few injuries going into this tie and this could give their visitors a great chance to book a semi final place.

The remaining ties are scheduled for 2.30 on Saturday with the game of the round being the visit of Cork Constitution to Bruff.
The Limerick side promoted to Division 1B of the League made a poor start but bounced back in fine style with victories over U.C.C. and U.L. Bohemian in recent weeks to move off the foot of the table.
Despite being short several regulars Cork Constitution still remain unbeaten and regardless what side they field they will be expected to advance. Having knocked out cup experts Shannon in the opening round it would be a great boost to the Co. Limerick club if they were to cause another shock result in this great competition.

The only other Division 1A side in the Cup Dolphin, face a tricky encounter away to Midleton. Both sides are likely to be under strength due to injuries. Dolphin have gone through a bad patch in the league recently and a defeat would not help moral.
Midleton on the other hand have bounced back after an opening day defeat in the league at home to Ballymena with three successive victories and will be quietly confident of booking their place in the last four.

Highfield playing in Division Three this season have a home tie against Clonakilty who currently lie pointless at the bottom of the Second Division. The Woodleigh Park side are currently on a three match unbeaten run and must fancy their chances of recording another victory and set up a semi final tie against Bruff or Cork Constitution.
